Geophysic - which one?
Given that a fair portion of all exciting watches ends up in the ownership of members here and that I have seen Geophysics of all types here already I was wondering what the opinions on the modern versions are - specifically the Tribute to 1958 in SS and the True Second model (likewise in SS).

Add the fact that they don't house the same movement.
The Cal 898 / A ( from memory ) for the TT Geophysic, the Cal 770 for the True Second.
One finely tuned, the 898/A, the other with a dead second.
One which is a Tribute, the other which is a fiction.
One with a Date the other without.
One which is below 40mm, the other which is a bit above.
They are so different that they can be seen as complementary.
OR... Each of them may be considered as a different offer, for different tastes or expectations. The retro look is definitely in favor of the TT Geophysic. The amateur of fine movements will prefer the 770.
The vintage guy will be in trouble to see a date in a Geophysic.
Each of them covers something different.
You forgot the Universal Time, which is truly charming.

I like the UT very much but find it's a very different watch. When you say the 898A is very finely regulated - so more exact timekeeping then? And the anti-magnetic properties? Or not really?

I couldn't buy the regular regular true second because of the date.
I've come around to appreciate the true second movement, and I think it is a nice innovation by JLC; and the gold rotor is an excellent addition.
Regarding the TT Geophysic, I needed it to have a bit more oomph (technical term!) from a movement perspective to make it a really attractive offering. Too bad the TT Geophysic didn't house the true second movement (or a manual-wind movement: hey, I can dream!)--that would at least have made the movement special, and IMO would be more in keeping with the nature of the original Geophysic.
All that said, I think the form factor of the TT Geophysic is more attractive than the regular true second. No date, and probably the perfect, or near perfect size, for such a watch. Discreet, but not diminutive. And the limited edition nature of the watch makes it a bit more attractive from a collectability perspective.

Agree with you on the size and the charm of the original; still the TS is hardly massive in its own right - JLC judged it nicely IMHO.
A hand wound movement would be interesting but not sure it would make sense commercially at that price level, since many people these days may prefer the convenience of an automatic...

Agreed regarding size
Both 38.5 and 39.5 mm are good sizes.
Manual wind on the TT Geo would have been great and would easily have sold out. For a regular production run like the True Second, I understand the overall appeal of an automatic movement (but I won't be swayed over the date!). Without the date, I would prefer the True Second for the movement.

The TS complication really holds a lot of appeal :)

For me the TT Geophysic is a difficult matter…
Been spending a lot of time wrapping my head around this topic…
On one hand, I love the idea. On the other hand, I am not thrilled by the execution.
But as I have an intimate relationship with the original Geophysic, I am biased…
Now, a couple of years after the launch I am able to look past the automatic movement discussion and trying to see the TT Geophysic for what it is…

That said, only looking at these visually, the Cross Hair version is to me a bit off…
Cross hair dial doesn’t work if too big diameter, IMO.
The cross becomes too big and even if JLC tried to fill the empty quarters by extending the index length…
It doesn’t do it for me.
The True Second…
Well, not a big fan of the complication, but the visual improvements on the movement is very appealing.
What makes it a big no-no for me is the hands and dial which are directly copied from the Geomatic!
Of all the different TT Geophysic models…
My choice would be the TT Geophysic in Platinum.
Just my 2 cents…
If time allows I will do a larger post on this subject one day…

Why a new line, could have been a one time deal.
They already have the Master line.
But since they made the Geophysic True Second, that ship has sailed...
