Richard Mille

With my thanks to Richard Mille for agreeing to allow these Live shots to go to print, here are some of this year’s watches from SIHH 2014.

It is well known that Richard decided that there were to be no detailed shots of the watches ( richardmille.watchprosite.com ).  Details of the individual watches can be found on the Richard Mille website. However, and as always, nothing beats the live photo and it is here that PuristsPro delivers the ‘real life’ perspective.

The pick of the new watches in my book. At SIHH 2014 only the rose gold version was available to see, touch, and feel. At the time I thought that the watch was too heavy; not sufficiently in the spirit of the other Richard Mille Formula 1 watches to qualify as something that I would be interested in. However, at the London showing of the new collection, the all NTPT carbon casing was on show. Now I get it! The watch clad in the all new NTPT carbon is a lightweight Formula 1 racing machine of the first order. Don’t be fooled by the gold elements of the movement: they are anodized alloys. But the look and feel of the watch is just perfect. Will write more on the watch later, but there is a depth to the movement and the watch that makes it one of the more exciting pieces Richard has developed in recent times. The integration of the g-force meter and the chronograph is new and unique. Unlike past Richard Mille watches, the RM050-1 for Grosjean and Lotus is a complex tourbillon, rather than a time-only tourbillon. It is a departure, but a great one at that.

all NTPT (carbon) version. It is also Richard's most complete F1 watch as well. Pretty much all he has learned in terms of new materials, mechanisms, and the stresses of motor-sport in one watch! Tall order admittedly, but a wonder to behold.

A useful complication and bezel for sea-faring watch enthusiasts. The watch is a substantial piece: large in diameter and depth and not for the every day wrist. That said, a complication that makes sense: using the fact that time and degree angle across the globe are linked. Innovative, unique, and stylish.

But I think that the case height is too large for my taste. It is a pity because I was rather convinced by the dial and the bezel.

In keeping with the tradition of producing a toned down version of the original tourbillon watch, the RM061-01 YB is no different. A cool watch nonetheless if you are into that kind of style.

I'm less convinced here by the contrast between the case and the "dial" (you understand why I mean).

I have yet to see any of the new ones in the flesh. 

Made my day with this post Andrew, this more than proves how nothing can compare to live shots. I am thoroughly convinced by the Lotus Tourbillon; the NTPT is so eye-grabbing!

I still think the RM035-01 looks like the best in show from Richard this time around, but detailed photos of these stunning pieces is such a treat.
