What do you think of my incoming watch?

Hi all,

I've wanted to post about this interesting watch before, but because it was still running a Kickstarter campaign, I decided against it due to the perception that it's an advertisement for the watch. Now that the campaign's finished and funded, I'm glad I've pledged for it and can't wait to receive it in a few months time. Hopefully the quality is as good as it look in the photos.

What do you guys think of this "TravisLeon" watch. It houses a Miyota 9015. I haven't seen anything like this on Kickstarter at the time, a very high quality looking (at it's price point of course), classically styled watch in nice proportions (40mm diameter and 10mm thick). Perfect as a dress watch. The project owners say it's inspired by the Calatrava's from the 30's, whereas it reminds me a bit of the Portofino. What do you think of the design? Love to know what everyone think about this watch.

Did anyone else also pledge for one of these when the campaign was running?

I'll definitely be sharing more real life photos of them when they are delivered!

Congrats!

If your heart tells you to get it, you have made a right choice.  From the photos, I like the design - date window may not be necessary smile, and the thin bezel makes it look bigger.

I am more interested in how Miyota movement performs - interesting choice, too.  But unlike ETA, Miyota will be available for a long, long time smile

Thanks Ken! Yes, I also prefer no-date, or at least for the black one, a black date window.

And you are right, the thin bezel actually make it look bigger. I'm also eager to see how the Miyota performs over time and will let you know!

I agree with Ken. If this project spoke to you, that's all that matters. smile Im sure you will get a lot of enjoyment out of your new timepieces, having been a part of the campaign to bring them into existence!

I actually got this watch for a special "family watch" project, in which on top of the existing watch that I will get, I'm planning to customise a dial for each family member. I think the classic design and a trustworthy Miyota movement fits the purpose nicely. It'll be interesting!

I wouldn't have think about Kickstarter in watchmaking but it is a very clever way to begin with a first watch.

It looks elegant and nice.

Thanks Mark for the kind comments! I agree it's an unusual experience to buy a Kickstarter watch project. It's an interesting platform and for micro brands, it's the perfect place to pitch their idea to potential customers.

I've seen a few interesting watch designs on KS and this i the first one I've pledged for. I'll be checking KS out more often from now on! biggrin

Would be perfect at 36-37mm...

Thanks Steve! I agree because of the positioning of the date window, it might look better without date. I'll see how big it looks on my wrist. Strangely, I'm slowly getting used to bigger and bigger watches biggrin

Classic look but two mm smaller and without date...

Yes, 38mm would be the ultimate dress watch size! I'm keen to see how a 40mm dress watch will look on my wrist. I really like the elegance of this watch.

I'm planning to get custom-made dials for these watches as well, as part of a project, so will be looking forward to sharing the result of those as well.
