Horological Meandering

It was inevitable. I have a weakness for Titanium. To make matters worse, my 1st Seiko is a titanium and I loss it over service defect, well more of that latter ...

It is only logical you'll spot me with a Ti Seiko sooner or later.

Very nice piece....  So what happened in the servicing process?

Back in the early 90s my dad was given a Seiko Spirit Ti Chronograph by his Japanese client for bring the Japan company to venture into Malaysia. My dad didn't wear it so as a gift he  gave it to me when I gone to college. It was with me for 15 years until I have a battery change about 2 years ago. I want to be cautious since it was a special watch to me so I took it to a Seiko Authorize Service Spot, the Isetan watch department. After the watch is service and I wore it for a swim.

"Bzzzzzin!" That was the sound I last heard then the watch is dead.

The tritium has puff up like pop corn and the movement is completely fried. I try taking it back but they refuse to service and I try other venue. "No Sir it can't be salvage, sorry" is the common answer I get. I'm quite sadden that I lost something important in my life.

From then on I become Seiko-less.

Until I saw Art and Cazalea's post on GS a few years back then. Then I know I must have my Seiko again and here it is.

was it waterproof for such activities to begin with?  Then, it was the fault of the servicing and it shouldn't happen.  They must forgot to change or insert the gasket. Were you compensated back then?  They should replace it, if possible....  Again, so sorry to hear that.

But congrats on your acquisition of the modern GS.  But, don't swim with this particular one

I too, could not resist this watch and placed an order for a new SBGA011 earlier this week. Should be here in October!.

...lusting after the new 130th anniv. of Seiko GS commemorative edition in SS right now.

I heard they are terrible hard to come by.

polished that you won't realize it's titanium until you have it on your wrist. Then you wonder in amazement at the meticulous workmanship and accuracy. Need I say more?

This watch is an antithesis. Is Ti but don't really look the part, a Seiko but not low price and a movement that's cross between mechanical and quartz. What make me appreciate this watch more is not no one will ever realize or agree on buying one unless he/she is a serious WIS
