Horological Meandering

I have a pocket watch that is a quarter repeater with calendar and moon phase. I have been told its a Landeron, but no number/model. Can anyone help?

Are there any inscriptions on the dial, case or movement? Hallmarks on the case? What do you know of the history of the watch? And a clearer photo of the movement, dial and case would help (remember to set the camera on the macro function and photograph in diffuse natural light).

 

Hopefully some of our members will recognise the watch and be able to assist you. How does she sound?

Le Phare was one of the major producer of repeater ebauches, and from the "smell" of this one I'd say it's a Le Phare.  It's probably been subsequently reworked/finished by another make.  just a guess.  Digging up this info is a rat's nest of uncertianty and contradictory info - good luck

Thanks for the clue. The watch has not worked for some time. It was my grandfather’s and when my grandmother took it to be valued it was returned faulty with a missing wheel! I am trying to locate a suitable wheel so I can get it repaired. The missing wheel is the chronograph wheel, which sits above the 4th wheel.

 

I will check Le Phare. Did Landeron make pocket watches do you know?

If I remember, there are some people on the NAWCC website (www.nawcc.org) (National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors) who might be able to help.  There was a web site once where someone had put a stack of info on Le Phare but I can't find it.

Landeron was founded in 1873 and so they did make pocketwatch movements, but they were primarlily known for manufacturing time-only and chronograph movements, and I don't know if they manufactured repeaters.  However, nothing stops them having reworked Le Phare or other repeater ebauches.
