Horological Meandering

Last month 12 November, LONGINES officially opens its 3rd boutique in Singapore at The Shoppes, Marina Bay Sands.  Gracing the official opening are  Mr Walter von Känel, LONGINES President and Ms Chi Ling Lin (or Lin Chi-ling), LONGINES Ambassadress of Elegance. 

After the opening ceremony, a press conference was held to announce its collaboration as the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the Singapore Turf Club and the running of the LONGINES Singapore Gold Cup.  The inaugural  SGD1.35 million LONGINES Singapore Gold Cup race was held on 14 November 2010 was one of the richest and most prestigious races in the region.
Traditionally, the Singapore Gold Cup is designated as an annual Charity Race Day. This year, LONGINES will raise funds for APSN (Association for Persons with Special Needs) Chao Yang School, one of the social service programmes supported by Community Chest through a private auction.
Auction items include a LONGINES PrimaLuna Thousand and One Nights timepiece and six rocking horses embellished with art created by the students of the school and Ms. Chi Ling Lin.

LONGINES PrimaLuna displayed in the conference hall.  One of the items for the auction to raise fund for APSN (Association for Persons with Special Needs) Chao Yang School.



LONGINES PrimaLuna series is in variation of steel and rose gold case.  It has three case-diameters - 23mm, 26.5 mm and 30mm.  It comes in either quartz movement or automatic (ETA 2000/1).

A short chat with emcee about another of the auction items, the rocking-horse which was designed by Ms Chi Ling Lin.
She spent about a week of her time in between busy schedule to design the rocking-horse for this good cause.

Asked why the design scheme, the designer replied, she likes bright cheerful colour and  as for the leopard print, it is one of the like-able patterns and also current in fashion.

looks good and seems very functional, but at an affordable price point.

I remember Longines had a long history with world timer, aviation, WEEMS and Charles Lindberg hour-angle watches.

A true history and not just recently made up marketing.

 

I had a couple of the Swiss Air Longines Ltd Edns (re-editions)....very nice.

It appears that Marina Bay Sands is now the place to go see all the new watches in Singapore, hard to believe the number of new boutiques and stores, sounds like Paradise to me.

Longines are really lifting their game in both product and marketing.  That boutique looks equally as nice as many other "higher tier" brands and the event seem to have been lots of fun.  Ms Lin certainly is easy on the eye. 

I am most impressed by the World Timer GMT and the gold calendar models.  Not sure if it is an annual, perpetual or other calendar but that is nice looking watch at what I presume is a decent price point.

I think I'm going to have to go and see few of these new Longnies in person.
