Dear fellow PuristS,
it is amazing in how many different ways and people puristic thoughts can be found!
I came across this story a few days ago and you might be interested to read it.
In this case a German lady journalist decided to wear the same dress (being available three times
) for a whole year, each of the 365 days. She varied it a bit with accessoires (scalfs, leggings, pullovers etc.), added something warm in winter, but basically she was wearing just one dark blue dress all the time.
She described her experience on this website:
If you click "Alle" you will see the pics of all 365 days and how the lady managed to create a different look although wearing the same dress. (Sorry, just in German)
I wonder how many of us would dare to do the same with their watches? One watch for 365 days, no other watch. You might change the strap (accessoire), but that´s it?
The lady conducted her experiment from November, 11th 2009 until November, 11th 2010.
Her summary: it is amazing how well it went and how little you actually need.
(NB: Her closet must be as well-filled as you would the average closet of a lady journalist expect to be
)
Chapeau, madame! You are a true purist!
Kind regards,
anaesdoc

WOW. i like that. and it is True.
like some say: LESS IS MORE :0)))
however i still like the Idea of Strap Change every once in a while.. it gives me the Feeling that i have a New Watch ;0))))
Cheers
T
you´re right, changing a strap can occasionally give the watch a very different look, that makes you feel you´ve got a new one.
Less is more, keep it simple, small is beautiful - these mottos are well known and rarely followed. Or am I wrong?
Kind regards,
anaesdoc
The journalist who wore the same dress for a year was not the first to do that trick. A U.S. woman financier did it many years ago - or so it is believed. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hetty_Green I didn't remember the name until I scoured around a bit but I do remember reading about her. She was a story unto herself.
Keep smiling
Harv
Thanks for the comment, Harv. It illustartes the truth of the words "There´s nothing new under the sun" (Ecclesiastes).
But I reckon the lady jornalist must be quite a different person from what I read about Mrs. Green
. She seems to have been a bit of a weirdo, doesn´t she?
Regards,
anaesdoc

PP, that you started this thread (which BTW I did not intend to restart) about self-limitation in watches. Can you post my the link, please?
As I wrote to Harv: "There´s nothing new under the sun" (Ecclesiastes).
Thanks for your comment,
anaesdoc

Hi, PP!
Thanks for your attempt to track down the thread. Although I practically do not send SMS, I like to decipher the abbreviations. In my mother language it´s nt always easy, but the real challenge lies in foreign ones
.
I reckon HNY does not present any problem
.
All the best,
anaesdoc
Good sense of style and humor - that sums it up quite nicely, Daos. As a trousers-shirt-pullover type of person, I am always amazed how the ladies (my own included
) manage to create all these different effects by minute variations of small details that I would not care for!
There´s definitely a big difference between us
! Good luck we can share some common interests like watches in this forum.
All the best,
anaesdoc
Truly admirable. I have to say it would be much easier with a watch though...at least for me
Sure would free up a lot of time to think about other, more important things. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Ping,
thanks for your comment - I had almost forgotten this post
!
Like you I would rather manage to cope a year with the same watch rather than the same clothing. How about sports, concerts and holiday at the beach? A Rolex might be suitable for all these occasions, but the clothing?
Kind regards from a spoiled contemporary,
anaesdoc
One timepiece can go everywhere from chic to sporty. I think that my UN Maxi Marine Diver, with its white dial and superb finish would fit the bill nicely.
But wearing the same clothes on and on?? Maybe a bathing suit underneath what ever I would wear in a given day...
Regards,
Yves

Hi Yves,
your UN also fulfills the criteria for an allround watch which goes with different garments.
Kind regards,
anaesdoc
