All watches do the same basic thing, tell time.  We dont really need any of the fancy decorated stuff and crazy complications, but it is art and we appreciate that.  It is a neat concept and as long as it holds up over time I personally think it is very innovative and most importantly, really COOL.

You are correct. The watch is electro-mechanical. The torque required to rotate the pulleys and move the belts is high. This required individual electric motors to turn each of the single belt assemblies and a microcontroller to handle the complex algorithms needed to keep all the belts in check. There is also an optical recognition system that fine-tunes the rotation of the gears to compensate for minute changes over time.

Thanks much! Yes, the watch uses a quartz crystal required by any electronic device that needs balanced timing. The micro controller operates the four individual motors and the optical recognition system.

There are several contenders here - Christophe Claret comes to mind as well. This one, however, is noe of the more refreshing and readable watches. It makes good use of the more vertically oriented display and reflects this also in the movement layouit.

The tread 1 is accurate to about 8 seconds per year - with the help of a temperature adjusted crystal.

in order to make sure our first timepiece was solid through-and-through we insured the highest levels of accuracy possible - with the least amount of service required.
So we have incorporated a high frequency crystal with thermo compensation.

Digital count method, with a thermistor providing corrections to the frequency given by the crystal, a la Seiko and ETA?  Is there provision for owner adjustment via a digital adjustment port or somesuch?

The thermocompensation is accomplished via proprietary methods, so I can only say that the accuracy is increased through these methods.
What i can tell you is that there is no need for owner adjustment as the optical recognition system keeps the belts in line - and once per belt rotation, sends signals to the micro controller to make any adjustments needed.

decrease the yearly error without sending the watch back to the factory? 

The only way at this point to adjust for error is to reset  the time manually...

Synchronize via computer,WWVB, or GPS?

We did consider some of these options and who knows what the future holds...
But for now, as our first piece, we wanted to keep true to the purity of the concept and maintain a balance between physical mechanics and electronic technology.
Interacting with the watch - turning the crown and watching the belts spin around when you set the time is part of the experience and honestly one of the most fun parts of owning the watch...

 

You wouldn't need any field testers for the watch?

We are a new US based company and  we are committed to redefining the way business is done...we intend to interact with our customers and fans and critics on a personal basis as much as possible.
I will send your request to become an "official field tester" onto the team....as I have just dropped my prototype in the sink this morning - twice, I am sure my privileges as a "field tester" will be revoked shortly! HAA!

Being asked one would think this creation is in competition to be a major component in the CPU on the next space shuttle....

Where do you draw the line...if there is one....I like accuracy as much as the next guy but this is a "Wrist Watch"...not an atomic clock...

Good question and valid comments.
To speak to the accuracy; simply stated, if Picasso could not first draw the human figure accurately, his later "crazy" art would never have the potency and depth to truly validate his concepts.
As we are a new company and this is a new product, it was extremely important to make sure we could first create a solid foundation to build the emotional value on top of.

It is not a "wrist watch", but an alternative to one.
