Horological Meandering

 Dear fellow Purists,

in the recent past, we enjoyed two posts in TimeOut, that emphasized the differences between men and women and gave us good laughs:

This post is intended to "bring together" the two parts based on the main topic of this site: by watches.

Recently I observed that good friends of ours wear the same watch in different sizes: the Rolex Datejust.

 

 

At first I felt this to be quite embarassing, as I do not like to dress like my wife, but some people do, wearing the same sort of jumper, sweater or cagoule. This "partnerlook" (i.e. looking alike) always seemed a bit to much showing-off, indiscreet and obvious to me. But then I realized that only a quite observant or watch-obsessed contemporary will notice the couples´ watches, whereas almost anybody will observe their same clothes.

What do you think about "Husband-and-Wife Watch Teams" and do you have futher examples of nice watch couples?

P.S. I hope, this topic has not been discussed before, because I can remember having seen a wristshot of two Reversos sometime in the Friday wristshot series.

couples who wear watches in tandem actually. This has several different possible combinations. Same watch/different size, same brand/lower complication for the wife, same watch different metal. My idea is that this somehow shows a sweetness, a secret bond that said husband and wife share. Whilst it may be possible that the husband actually dresses the wife watch-wise, I think the fact that the wife goes along with it actually shows that she is game and indulges in his hobby making their relationship that much deeper.

I have seen several of these combinations actually. Here is a partial listing that I have seen and which made an impression on me...

1. PP 5711+ PP5800 for her
2. HM2 Ceramic + HM2 RG on white strap for her
3. Panerai 005 + Panerai GMT alarm on brown strap for her
4. AP Concept 1 + AP offshore for women in steel, with green rubber, diamond
5. Lange Double Split + Lange PT perpetual on candy blue strap for her
6. matching PP Jumbo Aquanauts, the old ones
7. RM 009 + RM FM 005 on yellow strap for her
8. Rolex Deep Sea + Rolex Sub for her
9. Journe BL Resonance + Journe BL Octa Reserve for her

The last time my wife wore something in tandem with me was a school tee shirt for a kids' function we attended. So you can say I turn green with envy whenever I saw those couples sporting above mentioned watches

We think it's a funny detail, to both wear watches from brands we appreciate.
I don't feel that we are ridiculous (but maybe we are...), as this will anyway remain unnoticed by 99,5 % of the people we meet !

Our first duo : Hublot Big Bang Steel Ceramic 44 m and Big Bang Tutti Frutti Orange Carat 41 mm.

The second one, only a few days ago : Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpa Hemisphères and Kalparisma Agenda.

I took this picture in May, in the famous Keukenhof near Amsterdam : millions of flowers in a superb park !

We bought different "collections" of flower bulbs that will be delivered in September (well, I hope !). Next year, I'll be able
to do this kind of pictures in my own garden and carefully match my watches with the flowers...

This is how I would comment on your composition, Nicolas.

The watches are not identical, but very similar with strong resembling features.

Ideal compromise if you want to avoid whimsical commentaries by other watch geeks!

But I think your examples are a bit different from the one I started with: the couple I am acquainted with wears the same watch, just in different sizes like other couples wear the same sweater (just in different sizes, usually )

I think, the same look, that is what I thought to be special.
To wear a watch from the same brand or even two different looking watches of the same category (like JLC reverso for example) reqiures less self-confidence IMO.

But it is a proof of your wife´s impeccable taste that she would not let you wear this beautiful watch yourself. Lucky you, that you could afford another one - that´s a smart way to solve the "problem"!

BTW, my wife would never fancy to wear my watches....
Probably I should buy nicer ones??

The two "Reversos" are another good example, how different sizes of the same watch can easily be worn by couples, isn´t it, Bruce-YVR?

Thought myself about getting one for my wife and myself sometime.
