Dear forumners I came across old gold pocket watch from 1930ies made by Zenith today On the dial is written under Zenith Chronometrie Vasic Could anyone be so kind and tell me what inscription Vasic stands for Thank you Sincerely Damian
Dear Nicolas you are true connoisseur my friend!!!
I was tormented and visited my favorite watchmaker in Zagreb good old Monsieur Ivan Puzak, just an hour ago, who happens to be living encyclopedia of not only Swiss watches but the whole industry surrounding the watchmaking and also history of all thing adjacent to it in Croatia.
Just when I wanted to post response to my own question LOL you got it right!
Vasic was biggest dealer of Swiss timepieces as well as gold and jewelery between two world wars in Croatia. He got very unusual deal with Swiss watchmakers. They were sending him parts and allowed him to assemble watches here in his grande shop for that period spreading across whole building in center of Zagreb. Zenith even printed Chronometrie Vasic on the dials!
Unfortunately winds of WWII lead to death of Vasic his family and destroying of all wealth and pieces he got (allegedly he was richest man in Croatia for a decade) It is sad to see how one's place of birth can be rough for one's destiny. Thinking of it if he was born in let say NY maybe today we will have Vasic instead of Tifffany :0))))))
C'est la vie
All the best Nicolas
Regeards Damian
P.S. I will try next week to see if my dear watchmaker have some pictures or documentation about Vasic and post it
