I believe many of us have experienced sometime in life when we are so in love that everything you see and touch has a glimpse of the love of your live. Whether when you are sober or dreaming, awake or asleep, or whatever you are doing, she just can’t get out from your head.
You can almost feel her lips on your cheeks when the gentle breeze blows on your face. The warmth of the sun rays on your skin sends that same sensation into the inner depths of your being as you are reminded of the gentle caress of her fingers. She is so far away, yet so near…
I do not know if you have the same love-affair you have with any watches, or watches in general. I believe many of us do. I am NOT talking about the watch/brand/association such as:
James Bond/Rolex/Omega
Aston Martin/AMVOX
Motorsport/Richard Mille
Cindy Crawford/Constellation
Brad Pitt/Carerra
These are intended association that results from strategic advertisement.
What I mean is associating common things that we see and touch everyday with watchmaking when actually it has little or no resemblance but associated as a result of a combination of over obsession, fantasizing (and maybe creativity?).
Let me show you what I mean:
(Warning: The following post is in no way intended to undermine or oversimplify the complexity and honorable profession of haute horlogerie. Any unintended misinterpretation is purely due to my over obsession and foolishness. Blame Nokia E51 for the blur photos. The nice images are borrowed from web)
As I am walking down the walkway in the morning:

And enjoying my morning cup of teh tarik (caramelized tea)

I can’t help noticing things. The table tops at the mamak (indian muslims) store.

The only thing on my head was:

(some lateral thinking required here)
Got it?

Even at ease at the urinal (photo edited to remove objectionable content)

I can’t help looking for a trace of the flat head and the beveled slot. Where is the perfect screw?

Pineapple juice with lunch anyone?

Notice anything familiar with the skin texture?
Like little pyramids growing...

So many of them

There are more of these but I don’t know whether you guys can bear any further.
When you are in a love affair, it is just so torturing. And even more so when nobody seems to understand. I think this site might be the only place on earth I can confide my anguish. This is the only place I might be able to find people who understand. Thanks for lending a listening ear…
Tell me do you have the same experience…or do I need to see a psychiatrist?
Am I sick beyond cure…or I badly just need another fine haute piece?
Happy New Year!!!
great post thanks.
I feel less crazy..or at least, not alone !
Cheers
Jeff
..Watchalitis..
it is common to many here. My advise..
go to the nearest clinic (any watch AD will do), take a number and wait for the doctor's call.
Meanwhile, have a look at the various presciption drugs (usually in the nice glass display) and see which one you need.
Consult the nurse if you're not sure. These knowledge nurses will surely be able to explain which drugs will do what for you, be it a chronograph to time your pulse, or a nice perpetual to test your sense of what day it is. Better still, ask for a tourbillon for looking at the revolving cage will surely help to calm you down and you definitely feel better after.
But the treatment will not be cheap. Cost of going to a general practitioner is different from going to a specialist. Look carefully at the door to the clinic, the more acryromyns, JLC, FPJ etc., - likely to cost you more.
WIth the prescription on your wrist, you can go home and rest. Take a few days off from work.
If you are still not feeling better -go back again.
... send in the next patient please.....
ps. Ipm sorry to say that - there is no cure for this. The prescription will only help to make you feel better for a while before the next attack ...

I used to think that I wasn't normal, me loving those odd watches, me liking those unloved watches, me always succumbed to sales people sweet talk..... Now I know, I'm not up to your level yet. Thanks for making me feel normal

My wife saw my posts and asked me why I have never written her such a love letter!?
I am cracking my head now to write her an on-par piece...any ideas?
I am happy! (Just in case she is reading again). Serious.
