Horological Meandering

Greetings Guys,

Yeah is that time of the year where i have decided to budget for another watch.

I am actually not a Rolex kinda of guy due to their popularity in the "imitation market" but looking at their prices I see them as a relatively cheaper watch then what some of the other brands have to offer for the same kinda of money. It seems to me that some of the brands have pegged their prices according to the OIL prices...going up but never coming down.

Anyway it's down to these 2 choices BIG BANG s/s vs Daytona half gold black dial

Also could someone enlighten me on whether they will have a model in half gold (rose gold). Could not get any inputs on the rolex website other then the full 18k everose daytona....too eye catching for me.

Rolex Daytona!

Compraed to Hublot BB, there is no doubt for me, the Daytona is the winner....

You'll have a nice and iconic Chrono, with an in house and well made movement, for the price of  Hublotized 7750...

Nop doubts, the Dayto is really the winner!

the only drawback of the Daytona is the amount of imitations!!! it is really annoying to buy something for big money and find other guys with the same watch (...wait... 'same' is definetly wrong, I would say 'very similar') ....and maybe they don't even imagine the big difference between their imitation and the real one and they believe they're smart... But you know the difference and that is the point !!!

About the BigBang-Daytona comparison

MOVEMENT: ... Some the features of the 4130 mvt inside the daytona are: column wheel, vertical clutch, variable inertia balance wheel, parachrome spiral... in the BB you have a "HUB44 caliber specially developed in collaboration with la Joux-Perret" but look: 

DIAL and CASE: the Hublot features more modern design and it looks very nice and technological (maybe a little bit too fashion...) and unfortunately  I don't think that a half gold version of the Daytona exists....

I agree with Nicolas.

I have had a yellow gold Daytona with gold bracelet for around maybe two or three years...and the thing I always notice when put that watch on is, the smooth feel.

It wears so soft for an all metal watch. My every day watch these days is a Breguet 5817 with Crock strap and even when switching from crock to all metal the feel is something that you have  to appreciate.

As for imitations, and the people who wear them.......Marco covered this in "You will know the difference" .....but apart from that ,dont bypass the best and settle for something less because of people who wear a copy watch

You will find they do not mix in your circles anyway and you can pick the copy watch....if not from the watch itself, from the person wearing it..

The Daytona is a myth! This of course has negative consequences, but it is a myth because it is a great timeless watch!

You may not like the phenomenon around it, but the watch is just excellent if you like the design.

The Hublot can be nice, but it's a fashion watch, not the same league.

Yeah appreciate it very much............as this is only my 2nd Major watch purchase, i didn't want to go in the wrong direction.

I have tried the Daytona and the Hublot both of them the size is just nice (love the size).......but the Color contrast (gold, black & SS) of the Daytona stood out more then the Hublot. The only advantage i felt the Hublot had over the Daytona was the fact that it had a window to see the movement & a DATE.

Thanks Marco, for the pictures of the movement....so i assume that the Daytona has the better movement and better power reserve.


Ok will see if i can get my hands on a Daytona this weekend...............i have read that the Daytonas are usually going above list price? Why is that so?

I thought Rolex productions are in the 6 figure zone, how could there be shortages of Daytonas as compare to other brands like DR, GG, JD, .....Find this abit strange but nevertheless will go Hunting for a Daytona. Will post some pictures when i get it.
