have both on offer to me for same price (about $14k). If you could buy only one right now, which would it be?
Appreciate the advice

I agree that choosing between them is really difficult. As is obvious they are really different in terms of their look, their tradition and lineage, their function and certainly in terms of how they wear. The L1 feels very substantial, the VC, although not small, feels far more delicate.
Assuming all of the above are equal I suppose I would think about the opportunity for buying again in the future if you pass now. The impression I get is that it is far harder to find the VC these days than an L1, no doubt partly as a result of the fact that the VC has been out of production for some time, although having said that I saw one which was basically brand new at the VC boutique in Geneva last week!

Although a fervent admirer, and owner, of the L1 I would respectfully suggest that in your circumstances (and for the reasons suggested by others) the VC makes good sense. Not that you won't be thrilled with either, of course....
Good hunting.

Both watches are on par in terms of quality/finish. Both brands are also on equal footing in terms of brand prestige.
The VC offers better value for the money; you get a beautifully finished chronograph in a very classic case. BUT the Lange 1 is an iconic design coupled with a movement that was sheer genius when it was launched. The Lange 1 is an important and significant wristwatch of the last 10-20 years, the VC is not.
