It’s fascinating how different precious metals look if you really pay attention.
Wanted to do a quick photo study from some of my watches.
Especially interesting is the difference in white gold (Piaget P10077) and platinum (FPJ Automatique) and rose gold from PP (5205R-001) and everose Rolex DD (228235).
Both of these watches are “rose gold” but the everose DD is a lot more “rose”. The PP looks almost like YG next to the DD.
The platinum case of the FPJ is much cooler (temperature) and a few shades deeper in appearance. Whereas the WG of the Piaget has a lot of shine and warmth.

You hit the nail on the head: precious metal offerings aren’t created equal. It’s all in the alloy components. I notice it even in the difference between 316L and 904L stainless steel

Agree about SS as well.
Especially if you compare vintage vs current. But even in the current collection there are differences.

Reminds me of an argument I had with more than one SA at several Patek ADs.
I wanted to buy the 7234 when it was released first in red gold, because it’s a much better fit for my wrist than the original “mens” version. But upon seeing it the case appeared yellow to me.
After several encounters with SAs in different dealers telling me it was the same as the mens watch I finally got someone to put the 7234 side by side with another rose gold Patek. They weren’t the same, as it turned out the 7234 was a different alloy than the mens watch and to me looked yellow (it wasn’t yellow, I think technically it was 4N versus the mens 5N).
So yes, there is a lot of variation. And the other factor also is the colour of the dial can influence how the case metal appears.

I think the use of precious metal in watches is under-appreciated these days. And nothing tops yellow/rose gold for luxury.

For me personally that’s really been my focus. Unless someone wants to sell me a nautilus or aquanaut at retail (which unfortunately no one does), I’m more interested in precious metals and its variations.

Different companies seem use different formula of gold in their watches, the yellow from my zenith is so 'pale' and it oxidised real quick🤔

I agree.
But I think sometimes PP YG is too yellow (unless you’re talking a 5070 with black dial).
