Mido Ocean Star Decompression...and the original 5907

With the recent release of the Mido Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 Limited Edition, it seems a reasonable time to take a closer look at its inspiration, the original Mido Ocean Star 5907 Powerwind Diver.
The deep dive (insert joke) I've worked on at the Alpha Hands website (I am not allowed to put a link or I would, but I wanted to make people aware) includes all the usual information….serial number project and price trends, as well as case, bezel, hands, tension ring, crown crystal, movement, and bracelet.

Also detailed are the manual and instruction booklet, guarantee and information brochure, and Ocean Star tool and accompanying order form.

Let's get colorful!

I didn't know they re edited it! [nt]

Nor for me, alas. I don't like the crown protector and the charm of the original is not there. [nt]

Earliest date?

 By: subregister : July 17th, 2020-08:53
@amanico have you seen any documentation on the first dates of release of the original 5907? I had thought it was the late 50s, but the name of the new LE tells us 1961. I just have never seen ads from when the 5907 was first released. I have see one ad showing the first Ocean Star models were from 1959, seen one piece with a bracelet from 1960, and have one email from an exchange with Mido where they dated a piece at 1959 (221xxxx serial), though in a later email they said first production in 1961. I guess they have more information to lock down the date at 1961, though I've never seen it - wondering if. you have.

I also thought it was in the late 50's. [nt]
