Not sure where to post given lack of IWC forum. Not one you see very often and based on the humble 7750 Valjoux movements with some cunning reworking to include a split Chrono perpetual repeater tourbillon Watch. Fabulous.

No it is one of 125 to celebrate 125th anniversary. A couple of the 125 were done as custom pieces for instance a jewelled version with blue dial and bracelet. Most were yellow gold, some rose gold with silver (in this case) or black dials and some platinum versions too. Most were English dials, a very few German dials like this one and some French I believe. Sadly I don’t know the precise numbers in each variation. Maybe someone here has more information?
If they charge you more/above than a regular 7750 based watch, then that is a crime...
Just kidding, Guess might be mr Kluas ideal back then to design such watch based on common workhouse.

And also introducing the fully sequenced perpetual calendar adjustment via the crown only. No fiddly pins, no resequencing if you advance the month too far by mistake. Very user friendly. In 1993 when launched that was impressive and arguably still is today although of course many have followed since.

I’ve had the chance to handle one with its platinum bracelet last year thanks to my watchmaker. I still can remember it’s incredible weight. A true beast!
A watch which combines the four “main” complications (Flying Tourbillon, Perpetual Calendar, rattrapante chronograph and minute repeater) is really something incredible.

I appreciate the kind words. It reminds me of a different era of watchmaking and to be honest an era that sometimes we lose sight of given the evolution of the industry. A wonderful example of the watchmaker’s art. The repeater in particular is a joy with a lovey tone and good volume. I shall wear it to SIHH whilst I am perusing more modern fare!

I remember studying the Grand Complication and thinking how did they do this?
Taking a perpetual calendar, Moonphase, Chronograph like mine, throw in the split second feature from a second Watch, then add a minute repeater from a third. Enclose in a gold case. Lots of gold.
That alone is magic, but then someone says “We could squeeze a tourbillon in” and “we’d better give it a see-thru caseback and engrave everything”

I wonder whether these types of Watch (plus the Breguet 1735 for example) will start to get the recognition they probably deserve in the market. Not a discussion for here I realise.

Owned two of these, both one-offs, an all platinum with platinum bracelet and white gold with diamond bezel and bracelet (the "Oriental").
Trivia: those two watches now in the wild have each other's movements, hands, and dials: I preferred the look of the porcelain dial and chime sound of one, but the case/bracelet of the other, so Walt Odets and I spent a gin-fueled evening swapping them. Fun times...

I generally loath jeweled watches, and when first contacted about the piece I told the dealer not to bother. They sent it anyway, and once I saw it, I liked it - the square cut of the diamonds gave it much less Liberace effect than I expected. It was actually less "bling" looking than my platinum with platinum bracelet version. But it still drove Walt Odets nuts when I wore it (he liked pure, simple, classic style), so always good for a laugh.

It's a long time ago, many things happend since I have read and it's just a faint memory now. Anyway, it was a nice experience.
