That is exactly what needs to stop and we as consumers and the luxury goods industry are both complicit in promoting animal skins as "Exotic" and "Luxurious". I think such mentality is just as outdated as Colonialism and Apartheid. Its just wrong. I was a part of it myself, but going forward I hope by having this discussion more Purists will also join us and ask watch manufacturers to stop this practice.

We should start an organization or a seal that promotes green, sustainable, and cruelty free luxury. Kind of like a LEED certification but for luxury goods in those categories.

Think of the positive PR for a major brand like AP or Patek to get out in front and say they will never provide these straps again. I would love to see it. I am perfectly fine with synthetic straps and bracelets on my watches.
