Hi.... I'm considering a Vianney Goldpfeil and wondering what is the base movement used in this watch, and how long is its power reserve? Any other watch(es) use the same movement? Appreciate thoughts / experiences from previous / current / future owners of this watch  Thanks a lot!!!!

If you use the search engine here, you'll find a lot of information on this watch. To my understanding, M. Halter developed the movement base up i.e. he created/built the movement specifically for the Goldpfeil watch. The movement is not used in any other watch.

As for its power reserve, I can only share my own experience. It's an automatic movement. I don't wear it regularly and I don't keep it on a winder. But from manually winding it daily (20 turns of the crown), it runs for more than 24 hours. And it keeps the most accurate time among my watches.

Many here have shared their superlatives on this watch. I have nothing more to add except that if you have already found one, buy it

The VH Goldpfeil Jumping Hour & Moonphase is powered with a dedicated movement that I developped from the Peseux 7001. From this caliber, we used the balance wheel + spring + escapement system as well as the architecture of the gear train. On this base, we implemented a special gear wheel and also an in-house automatic winding system (the 7001 is manual winding).

Of course the jumping hour system and the moonphase are also in-house ! The whole is arranged onto a rectangular shape mainplate that perfectly fills the room available inside the rectangular shape case.

This made this watch quite special and .... (the other side of the medal) ... not liable to be serviced by a standard watchmaker.

As a matter of fact, special parts may be required as well as special skills and knowledges about this caliber. Even for servicing, there are several single use parts that shall be replaced. Happily enough, the caliber is very reliable and we have seen only a few of them back in our workshop, mainly for simple servicing or (bad luck) for movement damaged by unskilled watchmaker.

Considering the above is important when buying one of the 108 pieces produced, as it shall be kept in mind that no more garantee is given on these pieces, now delivered for quite a long time. Even if a guarantee is promissed by the seller, remember he has not the means to ensure it. In addition, there are only a few spare parts left. Therefore, servicing or repairing may be very expensive.

The destiny of the VH GP JHMP has got away from us a couple of years ago but we considere this watch is part of our history and we are now trying to make an inventory of the watches and their owners.

I can say that the GF you made is VERY reliable..both you and I know that you can even wear it while working on the cylinder heads of your car!

That said, I am one of the very first owners in Asia, and after wearing it since the time I bought it...and that's very very often...it has never given me any problems!

In fact, even I am amazed that your watches have not given me any problems.

Nevertheless, at one auction in HKK recently, I saw a RG antiqua that was obviuosly mistreated and used as some sort of sports watch..totally destroyed in the case and even with a damged dial..yet working fine, with all calendar functions still clicking!!!

This is very important information to know.  I hope you will continue to offer service on the VH Goldpfeil for a very long time in the future as I hope to hand it down to my son one day to inspire him to "think outside the box". 

For me this watch is more "Vianney" and much less Goldpfeil.  the only feature that points it to its Goldfeil origin is the big blue minutes hand.

I've owned mine for the past 3 years.  It works wonderfully but given your words perhaps I should send it in before the parts run out?

Last week I saw 2 of VH GOLDPFEILl JHMP available with 2 differen dealers, after this valuable information I'm thinking to have one beside my prev. GF

I love this watch. The GPVH Jumping Hour is tremendous fun to own. I sent mine back to Goldpfeil (Junghans) for warranty servicing a few years ago -- some minor problems -- and a lengthy nightmare ensued when they returned it to me (after months of waiting) in considerably worse condition. The folks at Junghans/Goldpfeil were kind and understanding; they just were not equipped to service this watch despite being the warrantor. As a result, Goldpfeil/Junghans chose to replace it. I'm very happy with the replacement they sent -- perfect.

If you have a small wrist, as I do, then you may need a custom strap (note that the strap holes are rectangular, not round, to match the tang buckle prong). Because I prefer deployant buckles, I wear the watch on a cheap stainless steel ($25 USD) deployant buckle, still with a custom short strap (the curse of the small-wristed!).
