Considering Model 33. Interested in thoughts and reactions from owners

I have enjoyed my retrotwin immensely. After an initial minor problem that Paul rapidly corrected, the watch has been running flawlessly. It is a beautifully finished movement.

As far as the caliber 33. I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Paul at his "shop" and got to see the caliber 33. It is his movement as opposed to the retrotwin. The 33 contains his escapement. I found the Grande Second to be a stunning watch and upon returning home, ordered one. I look forward to getting it soon. The watch has a mesmorizing dead second feature with the tick of the watch every half second. It was the second hand that sold me on the watch as much as anything else. Once seen, there was an instant must have emotion. I also saw the caliber 33 with the moon. The moon is stunning and a fascinating complication. I decided against the moonphase because it did not fit my OCD personality but it is a beautiful watch none the less. Not only is the watch a beautiful piece of workmanship but it is also produced by one of the true masters in the watch world as well as a truly exceptional person (talented yet extraordinarily humble and modest).

I continue to hear nothing but good feedback and indications that, like so many watches, the pictures do not do justice to the piece. I have also heard rumors of the addition of a calendar complication to the 33 - during your visit was there any indication one way or another on this?

complication to be added to the 33. I don't know if that was even an option to talk about at that time. Certainly a date function would help in coordinating the moon for those of us with OCD. For the Grande Second, it certainly isn't necessary and I am not sure if it would actually detract from the esthetics of the watch.

and as Mr. Mitch already said, Paul thinks also that a calendar would not improve the harmony of the watch.

The watch is a beauty and the few that will ever exist will be genuine collector pieces.

I will continue to consider this watch as the 2009 addition to my collection. I await Basel to see what new possibilities/watchmalkers may appear.

I am the proud owner of a Retro twin.  I also had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Paul and his wife, Ruth, at Paul's atelier when I went to collect my watch.  He combines exceptional talent with modesty - an uncommom combination - and I very much enjoyed my tour of his atelier.  I saw the Model 33 and, while I prefer simplicity in my watches, the Model 33 would be at the top of my list if I wanted a moonphase.

Some watchmakers are very good at self-publicity but words don't always match up to talent and product IMO. With Paul Gerber you get watchmaking par excellence and a man who allows his deeds to speak for him.
