i knew Peter Speake-Marin would be spending few days in NYC so i couldn't pass on the opportunity to met with him...although his schedule was pretty hectic, he managed to find about 4 hours to talk about watches...

here we are around a cup of tea and Peter is changing the strap on my newly acquired Piccadilly...







his 42mm with white enamel and Roman numerals next to my 42mm with cream enamel and Arabic numerals...





from there we went to Lupa in Downtown for some good Italian food and wine (where we've met Alan, another watch afficionado)...of course more watches...Peter brought with him some amazing pieces...sorry for the crappy pics, but there were taken with my small Sony digital camera and the lighting in the restaurant was poor...





a beautiful perpetual calendar in white gold and 42mm



how much can i get for a kidney?...i need money to buy this!!!



look at the fantastic hand painting done on this piece!!!



but the piece that stole my heart was the 42mm Shimoda....ahhhh, i think i'll have one soon...oooh, when is it going to stop???

The 1st time I saw the Shimoda i told myself that one day that watch will be on my wrist. I can't say that I'm there yet but my goal is getting near though ;-)

Thanks for the great shots and narrative.  We'll be seeing PSM on Saturday, and I can't wait to see the new goodies!  Loving my Shimoda -- there's just something about that watch that captures the imagination, I think.

Is the enamel dial Tourby a new (42mm?) version with a bigger enamel dial than the original, or is it an optical illusion?

the tourbillion is at 38mm case...it just appears larger...i asked Peter and he said that he doesn't have any plans to make a 42mm tourbillion...maybe something different, but not the same design...

i love that Pt one...and there are only 2 left!!!....uffffffffffffff

I spent with him about 4 hours and time just flew by....he is a charming guy and he knows a lot about watches...just to hear about all the big names in watch industry that he touched at one moment or the other in his life...and he is just 39 yo...

I had pleasure and privilege meeting Peter once. He is a very nice guy, truly a gentleman. I love his watches even more so after seeing him, and I bet the same is true for everyone.

BTW, how many people would be happy carting watches of that combined value through NYC without an armed SWAT team on hand?

correct me if I am wrong here but is it just the 38mm dials in a larger case, hence the wider 'bezel' area.
Anyone have a comparrison shot of the 38mm and the 42mm side by side

Have to say that I'll need to see one for real before I'm convinced, but the balance of the original 38mm seems better to my eyes

besides the diameter of the case, those are the only changes...put it on your wrist and a 42mm fits as a watch is suppose to!!!...perfect!!!

Seeing all this brings back vivid memories of that night you fell in love with PSM's watch..

The rest of us were all staring at the "horological machine", with an awkward mix of respect, amazement, disgust and disbelief while you were yapping away with mr Speake-Marin, ordering the new watch in the process.

Glad to see you took possession of it. It's a wonderful looking piece. It's getting busy in your watch-drawer now, if I count all your posts (unless you let some go in the process as well).

PS - good choice on the numerals and dial-color. I like yours better than Peter's piece

Man, I'd love to come to NYC.. Been thinking about it.
Probably not any time soon t hough (unfortunately). This new job is killing me..
