While the novelties will garner much of the attention this week, it is also nice to look at watch that isn't so new. I met a collector who has an model from the late 1990's. The reference 47052 featured an automatic movement that indicates hours, minutes, day, date, phases of the moon, and week of the year. The yellow gold case is 36 mm in diameter, and is only 8.5 mm thick. The lugs are of the standard "Patrimony" design of that era, and can also be seen in the perpetual calendar and jumping hour watches that were also in production at that time.
The central section of the dial has a guilloche finish. There are correctors on the side of the case that can quickly set the day, date, moon, and week. This watch is not a perpetual calendar, thus it needs to be manually corrected for months with less than 31 days.
So long as a collector is comfortable with the size, which is small by today's tastes, this or any of the complicated calendar watches from the late 1990's or early 2000's would make a nice addition to a collection.
