Hi - could anybody tell me about the Vacheron Constantin CALIBRE P453 - I have seen a lovely 1930's VC watch with this movement and am very tempted. For you experts the serial number is 4126/350530 its - here is a picture:-
that watch is gorgeous, though I suspect that it dates from a later period than the 1930's. To date it precisely you would need both the case and movement serial numbers. VC could then confirm that they were born together, which is a fact you should confirm before purchasing the watch.
The lack of the "&" makes me think that the dial has been restored/reprinted somewhere along the way.
I think these tear drop lug watches as being one of VC's iconic designs.
Thanks for the advice - the numbers on the snap on back case are 4126 / 350530 and on the movement the P453 / 3B and looks in pristine condition, almost as if little used. I will ask the seller about the dial. You may recall I asked you about a Patrimony (2009) for 5K - torn which I should choose of the 2 (if this one is right at £3k). Andy
The movement serial number will also have 6 digits

Hi Andy,
Please ask the seller to provide you with the six digit movement serial number. It will be engraved on the plate but will be small. I typically either need to use a loupe or take a macro photograph to be able to read the numbers. With that I can get the date for you from VC.
Hi Bill - Yes I have got it from photo of the movement - happy to up load if you wish and also, at your advice spoken to VC - they will follow it up they tell me and advise me accordingly. I will let you know what they come up with. Does seem on all the issues re the & / Crown / Dial finish, this may not be the best VC I might buy? Sad really as you say tis gorgeous otherwise. regards Andy
My opinion is what this dial is badly redone. It is a terrible mistake that the (& is missing from the name. Here are some photos from another Vacheron & Constantin ref. 4126. with beautiful engine turneddial taken from the internet.
Hi and thanks for your comments and photos - lovely watch. Here what you say and does make me think, I should re think buying this one and search on. thanks again Andy
