I had the opportunity to attend the special opening event on Dec 16th and dinner afterwards, but due to flight delays only made it to dinner and quick stop at boutique the next day. Part of my purpose was see and try on Moonstruck because of concern's similar to Ron's about size and weight. UN's website has a brief description of the event [click here ] and I know that a magazine photog (I don't recall which one) was there for article pics.
Boutique is fabulous and I recommend to any Purists to visit. During my visit, the friendly staff allowed me to see and wear both the RG and Plat versions of Moonstruck. I agree with Mitch that balance of watch gives it a very high wear comfort based on my first impressions and limited wrist time. For comparison, it felt no heavier than a Plat Rolex DD which I can easily wear all day, but much more comfortable that a WG GP ww.tc which I don't find comfortable for long periods even though similar in size. I wonder if it's a center of gravity issue that relates to comfort. FYI my wrist is 7.25 inches.
Maybe someone can provide the actual weights of this watch for comparison?
Both watches are beautiful in person and although based on pictures I expected to prefer the RG, the Plat has to be at the top of my Xmas list for 2011--just keeping my fingers crossed that it will still be available. Something about the white metal and UN blue that sets it off!
Also, I had an opportunity during the dinner the night before to visit with Rolf and Patrick and try on Rolf's personal Freak Diavolo. Although noticeably heavier than a RG Freak, it feels like a joy to wear continuously. The Diavolo is another watch that pushes all of my buttons and will make 2011 a very difficult year of choices for me. Thanks to everyone at UN for giving this Purist new aspirations in wrist watch innovations and season's greetings to all, especially BernardC whose writing really introduced me to this brand.
Cheers and live well!
