The price of stainless bracelets is an old issue ...

... since, generally, they are priced rather high. Ever since I am interested in fince timepieces, I recall hearing the advice: "Whenever possible, buy the piece with a bracelet from the beginning, since it is much more expensive to add the bracelet later!"
This has proven to be right. The reason? Well, it has to do with suppliers, storage, price politics, handling, and so on. When I purchased a Ford many years ago, I opted not for the top equipped variant, but for the somewhat cheaper, second package. Later, I realized that many gadgets, part of the optimum package, were missing in my variant. And when acquiring but three of the many gadgets, I ended with paying more for my car than I would have when purchasing the top package immediately.
Aside from that, the steel bracelets offered by Ulysse Nardin are of top quality, with the company and its service policy standing behind them just as well as behind the watches themselves. But if the aging of the leather straps is your primary concern, then there are some alternatives: For the Caprice, UN offers straps made from satin (my wife, infamous for ruining leather straps within the shortest possible time, now wears her UN on a satin strap since more than a year, without any really apparent traces of damage or wear) and galuchat, which are both more rugged than the standard leather straps.
