Hello Everyone. Does anyone know what happened with 43mm Chronometer? When to expect it to be available? I know only one dealer that has it, but with too small discount. Even it was announced in May or June, it is hardly available.

 

... Don't you believe that this watch exists? But then, you state yourself that some dealers have it, so, apparently, it seems to exist. Or are you disappointed that you cannot get it with a discount high enough to satisfy you? Well, shouldn't we ask: "What happened with the 43mm Chronometer?" if the discounts offered were so high already?

Apparently, a brand does not have a big problem, when it can sell its watches without high discounts, and - to be honest - I am very proud of UN that it is producing watches so  popular that the dealers' stocks are sold out quickly.

I don't understand your reply! Are you upset that someone is asking a reasonable question? UN watches can be get at 30-35% discount on most of the models.

I am only trying to find out if anyone know when UN would make them available  in enough quantity that my dealer can get it. I want to buy it from my dealer and not from the another who had it, but not with the face I wanted. The watch was announced logn time ago, but they are not coming to US.

I bought a UN Blue Wave w/ S/S bracelet for 5,500 second hand and a 8 months later I sold it for 4,300. This was a second hand watch too. I wrote a letter to Rholf Schneider explaining my dissatisfaction w/ Photos of my watch. He did reply and apoligized for various QA problems w/ the watch. I was pretty upset I took such a hit on this watch. I  still changed Brands though. I realize that I  am playing in the Big Leagues here. There are some people who save for months or years to have a nice timepeice. Then there are those can buy what they want anytime A Sonata, a Perps from Various Brands only to assemble a fantastic collection to be admired and shared w/ folks like us.  They work hard they have earned it on their respective levels too. And if it comes to a time where someone grows tried of a peice then I would be honored to wear a timepeice in the second hand market at a fair value. So consider the second hand market for your savings.

The reason I asked what happened with 43mm is that even it was announced long time before, it doesn't look like it is produced in enough quantity (or delivered to US) not only to satisfy a demend, but also to be even present in US market. I completely understand that it is not a cheap Seiko and sometime it is difficult to satisfy a demend, but at the same time it is not a limited addition watch that can sold out very quickly. I also understand that not all dealers are the same, some are on the preferable list and some are not. But my dealer even can not tell me ETA (estimated time) when he can get a watch for me (I have 40 years anniversary soon and hoped to have a watch by then). Now in regards to second hand market: I am on everyday basis check Ebay knowing that some people get the watch just for resale, but I had seen only one appearence of 43mm on Ebay. My dealer can easily get regular Maxi Chronometer, Diver and some other models, plus there are tonns of them on Ebay, but I really liked 43mm. Why? In my opinion regular Chronometer looks cheaper with arabic numerals - Roman numerals make watch look richer, more pleasant to the eye. I like Chronograph, but I just could not understand why UN produce them only with beige and blue dials - blue is too sporty and beige just don't go with SS and black strap. UN produce Diver with camuflige dial that just looks rediculous, but do not produce white or black dial for chronograph. Strange! My dealer offered me several other watches including Breguet Marine or IWC, but I am still waiting for 43mm already for 2 months.

So, my original post was an attemp to find out ETA from people who probably have good relationship with large dealers.

 

 

..., sometimes mysterious even. Of course, a small watch manufacturer cannot stop production of all its references in favour of the new ones, only to satisfy the full demand. Yet the production capacities are limited, not only at Ulysse Nardin, but at every manufacturer. As a result, the production batches are assigned not to all dealers who ordered them, but to the most successful of them; which should be rather clear. Currently, the Asian market is highly successful, so I expect the majority of the new models to be sent there in the beginning.

Yet, in defense of UN I want to state, that, unlike many other brands, UN is presenting a new model only when it can be produced and is available, at least somewhere in the world. In numerous cases, I have experienced the different approach, with watches presented in Basel, and available at the dealers only two years thereafter.

Market economics are usually at work here, basic supply and demand. Make too many, selling price gets depressed, make too few, selling price gets inflated. The watch business is a fairly efficient market when dealing with the larger companies.

The RRP, List, MSRP or whatever else one wants to call it is a fictitious, pie in the sky number that no one really pays any attention to other than to use it as a selling tool with which to "Discount off"

There is no mystery here, those that are selling at smaller discount are able to pay their vendor bills in term or close to on time, as they are able to make enough money in order to operate a store where on is able to come in try on and hopefully , and I mean hopefully, speak with an intelligent , knowledgeable salesperson who will help them fine tune their buying knowledge so as to purchase a watch they really like. This is the service aspect of the business that does have a real cost. By paying one's bills on time, will determine what type of product one gets access to. This may be a dirty little secret of the business, but it is reality and there is not much point in trying to dance around and pretend it doesn't happen, because it does.

The inventory carrying costs asked of retailers by the big brands are such that a retailer has to make enough of a gross profit in order to offset the carrying costs plus all the other misc. expenses of running a retail operation. If what one wants, is to buy at 30-35% off the fictitious price, I can appreciate that... but I suspect and predict it will only in the future be either on the web or from a boutique store owned and operated by the brand.

No one likes to pay "Too much" myself include, so I appreciate your dilemma, and as you are used to buying at those discounts, don't feel you should pay more for something you don't see as more valuable. It is a conundrum for watch collectors/buyers to know what is the right price to pay for a watch. The over-production of watches for the market by most makers truly determines the selling price. Again I come back to supply and demand. One only has to look at Panerai to get a grasp of this phenomena. There is great demand and limited supply. I'm not here to debate why, just to illustrate the economics...

There is no right or wrong reason for wanting to acquire a fine watch, just differing sets of circumstances for individuals.

I offer this missive up as more information for you and others to ponder. I try as is humanely possible not to judge why people buy.

Hi Millennium, what part of the US are you located?  At least here on the West Coast the MaxiMarine Chronometers are definitely available and in various colors.  Here's a recent pic from the Dec 7th Purists UN GTG:

I probably had to re-visit the stores again, but as I told I was looking to get it from my dealer and he could not get it.

I am happy to hear that some AD already have them. But fortunately or not my dealer offered me a Breguet Marine Big Date and of course I could not refuse.

So, I would be probably looking for UN as my next watch in latest time.

... is available since more than six years now, and the Maxi Diver since four years. It is natural that the supply of this model is larger than of one that has been presented only nine months ago.

My Dad just got one about 2 weeks ago. The shop has quite a good selection, he got black face /leather strap.
