The pleasure of shooting, is it still the same?

At least that´s what I asked myself. My M9 is with Leica at the moment and yes I have some "defects" on my processor. Now I have to wait for further information if my case is covered by the new solution offered - free of charge.

Three years ago I had serious trouble with my M8 sensor and got the offer to trade up to M9 for a special price. I loved shooting with my M8 and even more with my M9. I am not aware of any camera that could give me that pleasure while shooting. But at the same time I am not in the mood to spent even more money in upgrading every few years. Also thought of taking a break and selling my M9 (only the camera) before purchasing a new M at a later time. Let´s see how it turns out after getting more informations about my case.

Yesterday I got a call from my AD and he said the LE bag I was waiting for is in and waiting for me. Just saw it on one picture and liked it a lot, but  I told him now  it doesn´t make sense without a M. He was not very happy about the situation and will try to get some more info as soon as possible.

Leica M lenses on a Sony body. Do you really like it or does it just deliver good pictures? I guess you know what I am asking here ;-)

Your decision could it work for me as well? At least I seriously have to think about, but probably would go for the lattest one ...

Best,
Oliver

ps: Kudos to Leica for their latest offer - a solution free of charge. A good decision and probably not an easy one. Respect!

For me, it's easy decision:

the EVF. I like shooting with an EVF, what you see is what you get. No guessing around, no need for review. More accurate at wider apperture and with wide angle lenses. And I can use any lens on A7 with adaptors. And I don't like changing lenses on the go, hence 2 identical bodies would be prefferable. And I can get (almost) A7 and A7s with 1 Leica body.

It's different shooting style, not better or worse. I borrowed my friend's A7s to Tibet and like it a lot due to its high ISO capability. No tripod needed. Holding the A7s for a long time is also more comfortable than holding an M9.

I bought the A7 because it's cheap at the moment and I needed something to put my Leica lenses on smile. Full frame for $1k! That's a very reasonable admission price for you to try using it, don't you think so? Try it for a month, and sell it if you don't like it. Or upgrade to A7s and A7ii.

If you like shooting with a rangefinder, then the new M is the only solution. But I don't want to spend that amount money on a camera body anymore. And I still have the ultimate rangefinder, RD1 for fun smile

I'm seriously considering the A7 route. For me Leica is all about the glass

and being able to use it on the A7 is a great solution that also lets me use Nikon glass.

Absolutely

agree on both points ! Realised one can get the same Leica glow on non-Leica bodies with excellent results !

These lens adaptors are real God send ! So much versatility !

Had a go

out yet? I thought it would be out on Dec 17th.

Try the A7s, you'll be amazed at the high ISO capability and its dynamic range.

in HK and China since early Dec. Am told, these are mostly parallel imported sets.

The set I tried belong to the shop owner that I frequent in the Camera City in Beijing.

As u said, the ISO n Dunamic range is impressive, and the add pixels on the 7II is much welcomed.
However, hardly do any night or low light photography of late. Merely wanted something to match my Leica optics, besides my Fuji X wink
Preferably full frame smile

The Sony looks like an interesting camera and one that I was, and still am, looking at.

I'd be intrigued to see what the Pentax glass is like on it though.  The Voightlander 40mm looks a good choice, also.  What I notice is that some of the Zeiss lenses for the A7 range look reasonably big.  The A7 with the 55mm on it really isn't all that much smaller than my K3 with the 40mm Limited fitted.

Certainly, the A7 is heading in the right direction in terms of what I'm looking for in a camera.  I'd maybe like to see a larger grip on it with a larger battery also.  I'd also prefer no AA filter and perhaps a quieter shutter.  I'm yet to read any reviews of the A7 II yet, but from what I've heard it's addressed some of the problems that people have complained of regarding its predecessor.  It's a remarkable achievement though fitting a full frame sensor into such a small body and Sony should be applauded for attempting it.

Voight 40mm

requires the voight adaptor to focus. It's an M mount lens specifically design for Sony E mount. Strange, isn't it?
