David versus Goliath
I have always been fascinated with exotic lenses. Lenses in my opinion are the "paint brushes" in photography and knowing the different characteristics of the lenses will allow you to render light different under different conditions or to produce the kind of light rendering or light signatures. Each and every lens has its own light signature. I have more 50mm than I should have but each of them capture and render light differently. Besides the 50mm my next favorite focal length is actually the 28mm and in my 2 lens walkabout these are the usually the 2 lens that i bring with me - a 28mm and a 50mm.
For 28mm the following lenses are probably as exotic as they come - the huge heft of the Zeiss Otus 28mm f1.4 and the lovely lovely petite MS Optics red Urushi "Ironman" 28mm/f2 Apoqualia artisan hand made lens from Miyazaki-san in Japan. Optically performance the Otus 28mm is jaw dropping amazing but my heart goes with the MS Optics as to me its an incredible petite package with loads of character in its light rendering. I love monochromatic images with the MS optics 28mm Ironman. The MS optics is Leica M mount with with adaptors it can be adapted to be used on almost any camera.

28 / 50 is the classic combination and as well two of my favorite FLs... I have four of each.
The MS-Optics Apoqualia-G 28mm f2 Ultra Thin Version II was available in Black Chrome, Silver Chrome, Black Urushii, and Red Urushii... Version I was quickly sold out... MS Optical R&D / Miyazaki Kōgaku / MS Optics is a small company run by 宮崎貞安 (Miyazaki Sadayasu) in Chiba Prefecture (JPN). Miyazaki-san has quite the reputation in recent years... and deservedly so.
The Zeiss Otus series of f/1.4 lenses (28mm, 55mm, and 85mm) are 'huge' with respective 95mm, 77mm, and 86mm filter sizes... and coming in at around 1 kg per, they are not small.

Thanks for the illustration of the wide spectrum of "similar" lenses classified by focal length and apperture.
Given that they are excellent within their classification, I would choose the smaller lens every time!
I know the analogy to paint brushes and differing "textures" produced but in the case of lenses:
A good little 'un beats a good big one everytime....my neck and carrying shoulder agree at the end of the day!
