It was not long ago that Zenith had a good diver. 1000m, Helium escapement, El Primero movement, and innovative use of new alloy, Zenithium for the shock absorbing balance bridge, composed of Titanium, Aluminium and Niobium. Only problem with this one was legibility and high price. A reissue would be nice, but I really think Zenith needs to innovate ! In the diver category, we see JLC with their Master Compressor Diving Pro Geographic with a mechanical depth gauge for heaven's sake, and Blancpain with the X-Fathoms with an amorphous metal membrane that functions as a measuring device for depth (I have yet to see it hit the boutiques though despite being launched in 2011). Even tiny Pita Barcelona have probably the ultimate dive watch in the Oceana, highly legible, truly innovative case design, and good to 5000m.
The Zenith reissue would only be good for the desk diver's and collectors buried in the past. I want to see something with more substance. A mechanical watch that can replace a Suunto. Or even a hybrid mechanical/digital watch diving watch (I hear Purists gasp !)
