To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the legendary Zenith El Primero Chronograph from 1969, Reference A 386, Zenith unveils it, this year, in three versions, each limited to 50 pieces, but all in gold.

Here we have a very close re edition of the icon, with some modifications, the most important being a see through case back and a modernized version of the movement.

You can get each of them separately, you are not obliged to acquire them in a set.
The retail is 19, 900 Euros each.

The case has the same size than the original, 38 mm.
I can't wait to see the re editions in the metal, for more details.
I just regret there is not a steel version available.

Thank God they did not re-edit my beloved G381...
There is still something in me that tells me that these re-editions, no matter how good they are, are in fact devaluing the original.
By devaluing I actually mean remove some of the magic, uniqueness/ rarity of the original.

We can also consider that they promote the original. I mean a regain of interest for the original. They put the light on the patrimony. In that meaning, that's good, in my opinion.

Maybe the interest was there in the first place being one of the best known and most important watch the brand ever produced. The interest was therefore there in the first place and it can only improve. The copy watch is riding on that wave of interest.
If you possess or simply like and respect say incunabilis, ie. books printed before the 1.1.1501, it makes little sense reproducing them some 500 years ago. The very fact that the originals date from that time make them that much more interesting. Copies lack that authenticity and that, for me, makes all the difference.
It is interesting noting that some makes, like Rolex, do not make tributes, copies etc. of matches they produced som 60 years ago. That for me makes those original watches that more interesting. Time capsule, not desacralised...

" Time capsule, not desacralized... ". That is a very interesting topic. You are not the one. Many Vintage lovers think like you, and I do understand that point very well.
We had this discussion on the JLC forum, with the Polaris 50th anniversary. From my point of view, I think JLC, with the modernisation of their icon different indices, hands, texture of the dial, case and so on ) did a great job. A bit ala Rolex with the Submariner. You see the spirit, but in a much more modern way.
