is that Jaacob bought a used Patek 5980 Chronograph either from a Patek AD or from another watch shop.
The watch in question seem to have a issue with the correct return-to-zero/flyback function of the chronograph hands. It appears to me that it sometime returns perfectly but sometimes not, and the seller seems to agree to a refund if the problem persist. Which it does.
Jaacob returns the watch to the shop and was told the he did not press the buttons correctly. Jaacob is now upset because of the defect in the watch and the behaviour of the shop.
Provided my understanding is correct, these are two different issues, actually three:
First (this could be a language/translation issue), Jaacob seems to expect a Flyback function on the Patek 5980 which (as far as I know) is not there. IF the 5980 returns to zero without having to stop the chronograph first then I think the watch is indeed defective, most likely due to mishandling by the previous owner.
Second, as Nico already mentioned the watch is used. This means that slight misalignments/defects/signs of use can be there, even if not immediately detectable. It could have well been that the watch worked perfectly when the shop acquired it, but then started to malfunction once in Jaacob's hands. If asked about advice on a used watch I always recommend to add the costs of a service to the final price as a measure of the real purchase costs.
Third, there are the promises of the seller and how he/she stands to them. This is something I we don't know for sure as this is a private agreement between you two, and I think this is barely a topic here.
Thanks,
Magnus
