I personally think the 5712/1A is more pleasing aesthetically , due to improved construction and dial

But I'm very sure the 3712/1A is much more special

Cheers

Sam

There are a lot.

The main difference is that 3712 is having a case made of two parts while 5712 a case made of three parts. In the latter you get access to the movement by opening the case back but in the 3712 the whole case must be opened from the lugs. Just lie the port hole of a ship. The case design of 3712 is the one designed by Gerald Genta.

Some other differences:

                                                                                    3712/1                                                                                5712/1

Crown                                                                        Push down                                                                         Screw down
Case width                                                               42 mm                                                                                  43 mm
Case thickness                                                        8.37 mm                                                                               8.52 mm
Case a 3 and 9 o'clock                                           Straight                                                                                Shaped
Direction of the date numbers                               Same as reading direction                                              Partly turned
7 o'clock markers                                                     Present                                                                                Absent
6 o'clock marker                                                       Rectangular                                                                        Rounded off
Hour and minute hands                                          Slimmer                                                                               Thicker

Plus a little bit different hour markers - 3712 have slimmer ones.

The bracelets are quite diffent. The center parts of the bracelet of 3712 are more rounded and it looks like there is much more hand work in the bracelet of 3712. It also feels slimmer but I have not measured that (yet). Finally, screw are used in the bracelet of 3712. In my eyes the color of the dials is not identical.

Even there are a lot of differences between 3712 and 5712, they are still the same watch on the wrist.

I hope this answered your question.

Best, Kari

That is an excellent choice for your first Patek.

I have to admit that I love the way that the colour of the dial changes under different light.

Gristar, thank you for your informative post regarding the 2 different models.

Thank you!

I agree!

And that's one reason why the blue dial will always be my choice for the Nautilus

Best,

Sam

Thank you Quan! [nt]

Sam, Congrats this was an excellent choice.  I derive so much pleasure from my 5712/1A after having owned a 5711 for a while.  I loved the elegant simplicity of the 5711 but was attracted to the 5712 because to me, it's more interesting to look at and is truly one of the most unique and unusual sports watches ever designed.   The fact that its complications are housed in a case with a similar footprint as the 5711 is what really appealed to me.  There is an excellently written review that was published here a while back which is what really "sealed the deal" with me last summer - almost a year ago today.  I do admit there are occasions when I second guess my decision to trade in my beautiful 5711, but those feelings disappear every time I wear this masterpiece.   I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!  Cheers!

The 5711/A is also a very nice piece...

I once considered it as a good friend suggested me that the 5711/1A is the one to get

But I guess the 5712/1A is more unique due to the dial

Thanks for your kind words mauiguy! Hope to see some photos of your 5712

Best,

Sam

Hey Sam,

As also an owner of a 5712 I would of course share your opinion: It's a great choice!

Take care of her.

Cheers,

Mark
