Patek Philippe

I have been on the Tiffany wait list for either a 5980 or 5711. Apparently my name has come up and when it rains it pours they have both! I bought my 5726 from a local jeweler and turned down a Tiffany one in a matter of loyalty. Now I have to choose which. Originally I was going to go for the 5711 because its simple, elegant, etc. The 5980 is obviously a great movement but I'm not sure it's worth twice the price or not. It also a very big watch. The 5712 is complicated yet thin and comfortable and the 5726 is thick but mutes it's brute force by being on a bracelet. I want a Tiffany dial as I find it to be rare and special as it's one of the only co branded dials out there. Not quite the holy grail but intriguing nevertheless. I look forward to your thoughts and thanks.

I had the same issue a few months back , you may want to look at my post. In the end I settled for the 5711 and love it, I decided I didn't need to spend that much extra for a chrono and bought a Pink gold reverso with the remaining money. This may not preclude me buying a 5980 one day but in the meantime I'm very happy with my decision.

yes the price difference IS substantail but the watch is....AMAZING

So, I guess that if the 5980 is a big watch for you, the same goes for the 5711.

I would go for the 5980, without any hesitation. First, I don't like the thick and large mluminova indexes on the 5711.

Then, the monocounter on the 5980 is superb, and so original.

I would also add that the 5980 movement is the first in house automatic Chrono movement.

I would end with the character of the 5980, which is faithful to the roots of the Nautilus: Sport Chic, at the Top.

The plain subtle and glossy dial will looks good day and night. Size is very comfy too, you will not regret If you like simplicity. Just individual liking and hope it helps.

What I hadn't previously appreciated is how much thicker the case of the 5980 is. This gives the watch much more presence and as I'm used to wearing AP offshores means that the 5980 is the only one that I'm interested in. The 5711 actually feels very small in comparison, if you like thin watches then this one will be perfect.

However, for me 5711 represents in a better way the original idea of Nautilus. On a long run I'll get all basic versions of Nautilus and 5980 is on the list but only after 5711.

For mew the choice is obvious. It had to be the 5980. The 5711 is a "common" watch that just bears the Patek.brand name.At least the 5980 is a "complication".

I think it's a more "special" watch.  The 5711 is nice, but plain.  The chrono subdial really makes the 5980 come alive.  It is thicker, but you already have thin watches.  Since it's a "real" Patek chrono, that also helps.

I agree with the other comments as I do  find the 5711 too common. If budget is not an issue, go for the 5980. It is not that big really when you wear it . It has more presence and feels fantastic !

and couldn't be happier with my choice.  I passed on the 5980 with the Tiffany dial as I find the 5711 more versatile:  it works great with suits as well as jeans, while the 5980 is more appropriate with casual attire.  There is something simple and elegant about the 5711 that I find absent with the 5980.  I am somewhat of a minimalist, however, so for me less is more.  Good luck!

A most modern chrono destined to be a classic....the 5711 faces competition from the RO and OS of rival brands...and I prefer the RO anyway.

Recommend the aquanaut travel time instead. If one choose the 5980. Less dull

I actually do not see a "need" for another Nautilus if you have got the 5726 already.

If it shall be still: than rather a 5712 RG with aTiffany dial, as Tiffany means jewellery and that piece is more like it.

Just my personal thoughts, as you are asking for thoughts.

I sold my 5711 when an opportunity occurred to get a well priced 5980 and I do not regret it. It may also be because I like chronographs but it's mainly because of the feel on the wrist. There is no doubt that 5711 is more comfortable on the wrist but it is the weight of 5980 that charmed me.

over the 5711. In this instance, I prefer the in-house chrono movement over the 5711's 324. Black or blue dial, both look great.

Like I said, 5711 is nice as well. Simplicity at its best.

you got the point of it costing twice as much, especially the second hand market value of 5980 is only so so.  If price is not an issue, surely go for the 5980 as it has more depth and the movement is way superior.  Acutally a pre-owned 5980 is a good option.
