I am considering adding one of these beauties to my collection.
Was wondering whether anyone has both and offer thoughts comparing the two.
Thanks in advance.

I also have a thing for Lange chronos (own Datograph) so I know what you mean.
If you could keep a 5960P and a 5070, would you prefer the J or another version?
and i suspect there are fewer Js out there. the black dial on yellow gold gives it a more "vintage" look, whilst the R looks more contemporary and arguably more discreet. but hey...I think yellow gold is going to make a BIG COMEBACK!!!
at the end of the day, its a very personal choice. and the decision to buy which version also depends on your skin tone, missus' preference if you are gonna share with her(some collectors do, esp those with horologically inclined spouses), availbility as well, given its discon.
its also a personal decision on whether to keep both 5070 and 5960. i made that decision not to, as per described in earlier post. I take a holistic collecting philosophy approach, which is that I like chronos as a complication that is most interactive and "fun", arguably even useful. So i find the same movement in the VC, so i dont need the 5070, since i do not place Patek on the pedestral and worship it, thus like i said before, i would consider other makes. But this "strategy" would not suit those with a Patek "theme" collection. For this group of collectors, the 5070 IS A MUST! i would even venture to say, like in a earlier thread by Dje, that is Rarity is indeed a consideration, the 5070 is produced in fewer quantities then the 5970, and the J version is probably the least. CAVEAT: this is my PERSONAL opinion and observation, Patek has never declared the above as facts!!
May i humbly suggest that you take a look at the VC Les Historiques or even the RD Sympathie chrono, both sporting the same Lemania movement. i am NOTencouraging you to buy them, merely and humbly suggesting you CONSIDER them. Since this two are also out of production, and all preowned, no diff from the 5070, except that there are some sealed 5070s being traded around still. the VC is quite small, and the RD is not the typical round case. at the end of this excercise, and if you are still attracted to the 5070, whether J or R, then go for it,becoz you have done all the due diligence dutifully.
good luck.
