Patek Philippe

Lovely

I've always always loved the 5159. I just think it's a gorgeous looking watch.
In line with today's tastes, it could do with being a little larger but I think it's magnificent.  Have a look at engraved case 5160 version as well.... lovely but big $$$$

It is what you are buying: a complicated (dream) - watch ...

It is also, one, of my dream watches and if I should ever be in the position to get it:

reliability and any other issues would not be a second in my mind:

firstly you should be financially able to say: no bother.

secondly: you get two years warranty and after every service again a warranty.

NOT TO ACCUSE YOU (!): it is not an item for a bean counter ...

I can't speak about the 5159 but had a 5059 and

found it to nothing short of incredible. I had no issues with its performance or durability, but I should mention I wear a watch more carefully than some folks I know. The only difference I found compared to other perpetuals, is the massive feel of the case, which I find to be a positive.

Great watch and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

5059p

I have owned a 5059P (still do) and have worn it quite a bit. The case is heavy with a substantial presence on the wrist (which I like!); in the 6 or 7 years I had it, I have yet to experience any problems. I think the same can be extrapolated to 5159. Just my $0.02

A retrograde date is not fragile...

It has a retrograde movement only once per month...

No, the question is: do you aesthetically like it?

The good point about this watch is the presence of the second hand which animates the dial and the officer's case.

But you may also find the dial a bit too busy. And I don't like that the leap year window cuts the date scale. Please also note that the graduation around the dial doesn't match the frequency of the caliber. It may be a detail and the watch is not a chronograph but I expect something closer to perfection from Patek.

Love mine!

I have had a 5159G for about 2 1/2 years.  I wear it pretty carefully and typically under a shirt sleeve with a business suit.  I wear it regularly, but in rotation with quite a few (probably way too many!) other pieces.  It runs on a winder when I'm not wearing it.  One time, the retrograde date didn't snap all the way back at the end of the month.  It easlily corrected when I manually advanced the hands.  Other than that, it has been flawless.

I really love its classicism, the dial design, font, proportions and everything.  Throw in the hunters case back and you have one sweet watch!  I have purchased other very nice watches and sold or traded them after I just couldn't "bond" with them.  The 5159 was love at first sight and it just keeps getting better.  I can't see myself ever tiring of it!

Love the 5059

This is my favourite perpetual of all perpetuals pretty much!  I like the 5159 too but not a fan of the elongated fonts.  I actually prefer the 5059 dial to the 5050, but i would have loved it to be a little thinner.  thats the one and only negtaive for me.

happy watching all!

Be critical..

I have also considered 5159G as it is beautiful watch. Pleasure to look at, albeit a rather busy dial. I almost got it. Reserved one at the AD and even paid a deposit. However, after an extensive research, I concluded that it is a temperamental piece to say the least. Retrograde date continues to be a problem. For some folks, this may not be a issue. However, I wanted a reliable watch to use on a daily basis. So decided not to get it. Good luck with your decision. Cheers. Jim

My favorite Patek yet. [nt]
