Patek Philippe

But I was on the Collectors Market and Noticed a Patek (not looking to buy) and noticed it was in a cardboard looking box? Is that how these watches come? Sorry for asking a dumb question. I've only seen one PP in my life but never the box.

Patek present their watches in a substantial beautiful wooden box.  A nice touch is the clasp on the box which echoes the Patek tang buckle used on their watch straps.

 

When watches are returned from service they can come in a small cardboard box.

Usually Patek watches come in a factory sealed card box, not inside the beautiful wooden box which comes separately, at least this is how i got my 2 PP (Nautilus, Aquanaut) i don't really know the reason for such practice but i've heard from my AD that PP do this to avoid that the watch get scratched during the transport (from PP to AD's or to buyers) and also to show that the watch has never been worn/used, thus the factory seal sticker on the box, there might be another reason i'm not aware of.

I didn't know who to thank, So I'll thank everyone who answered. If it is the service box, Then that's understandable but if its not, That would really suck lol.

If the collector's market piece is showing the watch inside of a burgundy cardboard box through a window, that is the shipping material for the piece.  It is only there to make sure that the watch does not get damaged during shipping.  The watch itself is supposed to be removed before display and sale.

If it is next to a cardboard box that is approximately the size of a presentation box, then it is the outer shipping box of the wooden presentation box.

Pateks are shipped from the factory in rectangular cardboard boxes and stored in them at the importers. Very easy to find and inventory. There are presentation wooden boxes of a few types to fit the whole line. The dealer gets the watch, takes it out od the box and puts it in his case. When sold it is presented in the wooden box. Some dealers let the pieces go out of their store unopened, factory sealed, to certain buyers who intend to resell the pieces. I am certain Patek does not like this practice.
