Two men meet at a cocktail party. Amid furtive glances at each other's wrists, they discover that they share an interest in high end watches. One of the men, thinking that the other man is a sophisticated and refined character, proudly shows his newest acquisition which is a rather rare piece that has several desirable features not least being the method of changing the time back and forth quickly and easily.
The second man, displaying rather crude and rude demeanor, promptly exclaims "ugly", and then goes on to denigrate the watch and the owner's taste, station in life, motivations for buying a watch, and for a general lack of proper WIS'ism.
The first man 1) politely suggests that the other man might take a closer look at the positive aspects of the watch, implying that while the man certainly has a right to his opinion, there's no reason to be impolite and impolitic; or 2) the first man slugs the other man for being a jerk; or 3) the first man first points out that the other man's behavior is not suitable for polite company, and then himself indulges in impolite behavior and slugs the other man for being so insulting.
