Hey all,
I am currently in a position to purchase one of these watches.
5004G/P or 5970P/G/RG

Which one would be your favourite pick and why?
Any inputs/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If u can get hold of the 5004 byall means. The only set back is the size. It is a piee that is rarely avaiable.

There is no real debate over these watches. The 5004 is far more complicated with the split seconds hands, very rare and very expensive compared to the 5970. If you can find and afford the 5004, it is the way to go. From a strictly aesthetics's point of view, the 5004 being much older than the 5970 is smaller and appears thicker from the smaller size. The two are not really comparable to me.

And this has to be the 5970...... Whilst I love the 5004 and really appreciate its every quality and could sit and look at that movement all day long for me the 5004 looks out of proportion and awkward. I understand  all of the 5004`s technical superiority and would love one in my collection but fear it would not get the wrist time my 5970`s do.........
The 5970 just looks so right to my eyes and feels so right on my wrist. I can compare this to the 3970.....And again while I love,appreciate and would love a 3970 it just does not sit well with my eyes and wrist....God knows I have tried to ....
So there you have it a slightly long winded way of saying the 5970...........In any metal......

any way to try them both on? I prefer the smaller size of the 5004, mainly because I have small wrists. I also prefer the round button pushers of the 5004. With these two ideas in mind, I would also look at a 3970.

5004 for me.

Having seen the 5004 in the flesh, I can only say it was amazing. 

I like the more rounded, classic feel it has.

but there is something pretty cool about owning a 5004. I would say it depends on how big your wrist is. the 36mm watches look ok on me but not really on big guys

so they are not that rare, yet
Personally I love the look of the 5004 dial a notch more than the 5970 but I have no use with the split chronograph or the chronograph.
Therefore, it's about its craftmanship and rarity.
To me , I'm not sure why is a 5004 2x the price of a 5970? That to me is too much and thus stop me from thinking......
Ultimately, I rather have a 5959 which is so much purer if you are into split chrono.
I have the choice last year , directly from AD, I chose to keep the 5970 and pass on the 5004. Any regret....yes, sometime
But I'm proud that I did not get it from my AD and flip the watch , which will be very easy
Main reason for my decision then was that I felt and still feel that 5970 is more wearable and way less fragile.

If it was me, I would more than likely go with either the 5970G or P.

Though it goes without saying, that the 5004 is a far more complicated piece and that in itself should be the clincher for most collectors.

I rather prefer to wear whichever one that I chose and in this case,due to the size of the 5004, which I find a bit to small. It probably would not get a lot of wrist time. So in this case I would go with the larger 5970 and more than likely that would be in W/G as I find the dial so much more easier to read.

But whichever piece, that you finally decide upon, in my mind, you can't lose.

Sorry to possibly "insult" proud 5970 owners, but to me the 5004 looks like the mother of all complicated PP chronos.

Applied arabic numerals are in my opinion esthetically more pleasing than indices. Same applies to applied roman numerals.

If you compare the p Datograph pp with the new RG one, that has got indices instead roman numerals, than you will see.

The dia of the 5004l has by far more depth than the 5970 one's without being unlegible.

The size is a true gentlemans, connoisseurs size that does not make the watch look like a pocket watch on the wrist.

Try them on and see how they look on the wrist.

But if yoy can  not make your mind: just go for the 5004 !

The 5970 is a great watch however the 5004 is a much rarer piece and more complicated as well.
I really wear and enjoy the 5004's the most......it may be a little thick, but no worse than a 5016.......and in my mind much more elegant with the round pushers and without the tachometer dial..
But at the end of the day it is all about personal taste

Not really fair to compare these two watches.
Three main differences. Complications, Styling and Price.

If it was my money and I was buying, it would be the 5970 p, a dream watch.
