But I prefer the 5205. I think that the readability is better.

The long batons, all dark and black and  the round batons look like bolts for S&M leather gear.

Does not give the watch a real "charming" character.

Same like an IWC all dark pp calendar in limited edition as a pilots watch: Who buys a watch like this that looks like death ?

The PP is not as "disturrbing" as that IWC but still: I found it quite brave as a design, to be honest.

Sorry, but I did not see it in real, but my first impressions are like mentioned above.

It is not hideous, do not get me wrong.

But the design is really "strange", "bizarre" at first glance.

I rather choose, IF, as an alternative the old 5135 or the lovely 5146 in YG with slate grey dial.

But the 5205 ... dont kno !

...and it really surprised me -- positively.  The "dark" face with the black center looked nicer on the tray, but the lighter version was very striking on the wrist. 

For me, the annual calendar is more of an "informal" complication in any case (at least relative to a QP, for which more "formal" surroundings are in order) so I'm not disturbed by the 5205 dial at all.  I was also pleasantly surprised by the look of the hollowed out lugs and convex bezel when seen in the  metal.  All in all, a very coherent attempt by PP, in one person's view alone.

One of the friends with me couldn't get past the white seconds hand, but I liked the way that it matched/highlighted the similar color in the day/date windows.

... my earlier comments about this Patek, as it is growing on me.

However, I did not see it in metal yet, for some reason.

Possibly it is very popular as I have seen already quite a few of last years novelties.

You are also right that the grey version is not to be underestimated as I also start to like it too or even more.

I surely have to see them in the "wild"!


About the occasion to wear this watch:

to me it is a very young looking Patek something for the younger audience, as it is fairly big, sporty elegant.

I have tried several 5960 and can imagine the dimensions.

So it is, to me, more a casual elegance like the Nautilus annual calendars.



A formal watche, IMHO, has to be very, very discreet: only two hands, not larger than 36 mm.

It has nothing to do with more complications or a higher price tag, as many believe.

Formality is asking for austerity, modesty, prudence.

The ONLY grand complication that gets away with these citreria is the marvel called 5140.

The 5140 is generally speaking the only really wearable grand complication due to it's dimensions.

I wonder what your friend will think of the new platinum 5140 with all the white prints and white hands ...

I too cannot understand why the hands cut off the 24 and why the date cuts off the 12.  It reminds me of the post I made about the esteemed 5970 which has the date circle cutting off the seconds circle from 27 to 33. It is one reason to maybe go larger if the PP designers cannot design functional faces at their current sizes.

just spoil it all for me. Will make more sense to have the date in that sub dial instead of 24 hours indicator.

The overall design of this watch is splendid in my perception, but this detail is not sufficiently solved.

So, in allusion to the CountdeMonet, it is a symphony with a misplaced harmony in between .

Just my opinion,

hi, i disagree i think one of the best looking and classic is the pp5146  thanks jorge

The 5146 is truely a very, very nice one!

What I like most is the clear moon phase without the 24h scale around it.

Just one thing is not so "nice" about it: it showes also the months gone by, and that could create a melancholic feeling.

In that point the 5396 is "straight forward".

Also: the 5396 reminds me of the great 3448 and 3450!

I would let the second hand remove from the 5396 just to give it a bit more the look like the above mentioned, if I would own one.
