consider a 5070 add to your collection? or you will get the 5170?  I am not usually a yellow gold lover, but for some reasons 5070J looks amazing especially that Black dial....

5970 is great, but a 5004 (in P or RG) is the most exhaustive watch you can have...but it's very difficult to find one !

...I did. Very different watches to wear, with the 5070 obviously bigger by quite a bit...but the connection through the movement, and the iconic status of each reference in the line up when they were current, was enough to get the pulse racing. Worth seeing each metal in the flesh - the dial/metal combination gives each of them a very different feel.

Which is interesting is what you said about the yellow gold version.

I'm not a big fan of colored gold watches, but I surprised myself to have a pleasant look on the YG 5070...

The contrast between the black dial and the yellow gold case is interesting, very retro, charming.

I ended with a 5070G, but the YG is not to forget at the moment of the decision.

So, to answer your question, it will all depend on your " degree " of love for the 5070.

If, after having tested it, your heart beats strong and loud, it is not stupid to go for it ( it is never stupid to buy a watch you love ... )

I would take the 5070 in a heartbeat. Those 5070 won't become chepaer in the furure and the longer you wait the harder it will be to find one. The 5170 is just out so if you don't buy it today you can still get them the next comming years.

My favorite is ofcourse the 5070 but if possible I would love to add a 5170 one day

Look at XXXXXXXX this is a site with probably the most watches for sale. Professional watch sellers but also a lot of enthusiasts like us.

I think there are about 35 ref 5070 for sale, in all colors.

Not sure if linking to this site is allowed but since it is almost as big as Ebay and it is not from 1 single seller/dealer I think there is no problem

 

As far for the price. You can still find them for more or less euro 45K. It is more than the last listprice but imo still acceptable. Last listprice I remember was euro 39K. Besides, the 5170 will even be more expensive. I think the yellow gold 5170 starts at 48K.

I think that it is a classic...
The more you wait, the more difficult to get one as it is no longer made....

The 5170 is also interesting, but since it just came out, it would be easier to get in the
future.....

At the end of the day, you cannot go wrong with either....

I used to own all three metals of 5070, less 5070P I do find 5970 less attractive than 5070. 5004 is the acme, go for it before it is discontinued Larry
