Patek Philippe

I currently own a Patek Nautilus 5711/1A but i want to upgrade to a Nautilus 5712/1A, i like the more masculine look and the moonphase design. Now while i have been looking around for one i have come to the conclusion that i can pick up a 5980/1A for not much more than the 5712/1A so should i go for the 5980/1A?

a couple months ago and ended up getting the 5712.  Seeing it in person sealed the deal for me.  The dial is sublime, as others have noted, and the thin case makes for the most comfortable watch I own.  It was a tough choice because I love chronos, but I have no regrets. It is safe to say that I have never had a watch exceed my expectations like this one.  I wear it almost every day and have not tired of it one bit!

Both of you had/have a 5711/1 and are considering upgrading replacing it for a 5712 or 5980?

I just got a 5712/1 and was thinking of getting a 5711/1 also, but wondering how much I would wear it?

I may get rid of a strap model or 2 because the bracelet versions of these are so versatile.

I don't know if you can go wrong with either.  Liking the Nautilus series seems to be a love-hate thing and once you get over that hurdle, it's what you like.  Back in the '80s when the 3700 was around, I didn't gravitate to the case design but then after a while I started to warm up to the Nautilus.  Didn't buy the 3700 because of no sweep seconds, but got a 3800 when it was introduced.  I gave it to my son when I got the 5980, and he loves it.

I prefer the 5980 because it is the first Nautilus introduced that had some heft and looked the part of a sport watch and not so much a sporty looking dress watch.  I don't really use the chrono function and don't really care for the Bull's Eye totalizer, but the watch felt better on my wrist (which is pretty small) and looked better.  I thought the 5712 actually had a larger feel about it even though the 5980 is in fact, larger.

That being said, and after 8 months of wear, I thoroughly enjoy the 5980.  I did have to get a link and one half in order to get the bracelet to fit my wrist and once installed fits me like a glove.

Moreover, the 5980 is a bit too massive for a Nautilus. Well, it's my point of view !

I think most people here will say go for the 5712. If you do like chronos, I would go for the 5980.

However, the 5711 is still a fantastic watch. It is the original. Less is more.

...recently and I chose the 5712G. The 5980 was 'sportier' in bracelet but somehow, chronographs elude me; I like the look but have never found a use for it. Like someone said, you can't go wrong with either.

thanks for your responses, think i will go with the 5712..but maybe i should move to the annual chronograph in platinum..it never ends!

..the 5980 its very masculine,the 5712 it is more elegant

for elegance if you are economically able you take a 3712,it is rarer and it will be revalued more

within weeks I headed for the 5980.  Both are high and fine quality sport watches. My wrist and eyes find the bigger 5980 to wear and feel harmoniously on my wrist and I love the 5980 look and colors.  I think you ought to try both before making your choice, they are very different in size!
