My AD just called me to say he had the 5101R for me. I am excited but a little apprehensive about the huge cost as compared to 5970P which he says he can get for me by the end of the year. He says that the 5101R will not be there for a long time as he will offer it to his other top clients too and hence I may not have another chance to buy it!

I need some quick advice please!!!!

5101 is a beautiful piece but you better have a big wrist to wear it.  Given a choice, I'd go with the 5101.

I'd get the 5970P, just because it's a beautiful watch, I like it, and also preserves its value well (for this kind of money, one must also think of this aspect).  The 5101 is not that popular (relatively speaking) to the 5970P.  I remembered my AD getting the 5101P for a customer within a few "weeks" that the customer have filled up a form to apply for this watch.  Since then, the customer has not been as excited about PP, especially seeing how much the resale value has decreased in GD postings.  I do understand his feelings, since the amount difference is huge.  Hope this helps you.  Just sharing my thoughts based on another person's experience.

I've only seen the 5101 once in person and I must say that while I like the case and its Art-deco inspired design. I'm not sure I'd acquire one.

Personally, I think I would wear and enjoy the 5970 more than the 5101.

Lastly, I find tourbillons to be a fantastic "drivetrain" complication, but still not my absolute favorite "drivetrain" complications. I'd rather spend the money on a watch with a chain and fusee (such as the A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange Pour Le Merite) as I am more fascinated by this mechanism.

If the budget permits, consider acquiring both the 5970 and the Richard Lange Pour Le Merite.

for most of us compared to the 5970 which is also 'up there' for many of us.  Anyhow, if the 5101 is the one you like, then the 5101 it is.

This case is big and takes marks easily.  I have put good sized marks on the 5101P case and PT is obviously much harder than the Rose.  Suggest you get the 5970P if you can as this piece will be a much better all-round wearer in the years to come. Incidentally the other poster is correct; you need a good sized wrist diameter to properly execute the 5101, so if you have a small to medium sized wrist I'd definitely steer clear of it.
