I like it on my wrist.....but would take 5970G over 5970P instead, in a heart-beat

Can't say that I've seen a lot of black dialed Patek Chronos lately.

Personally, I really like the white dials on the yellow and rose gold models. The silver dial on the white gold models also looks great!

Just haven't seen any black-dialed versions of late.

it looks great, however, still haven't taken it out of the plastic, therefore, no pix yet.

Tear open that plastic and lets see some wrist action....PLEASE!!

I called my AD last week and he told me Augist or September the watch will arrive. I am with you, tear open teh plastic and get it on the wrist. I can see this watch becoming my personal favourite, but will need to wear it to be sure. But, i do empathise...it is stunningly frustrating waiting for Christmas. FWIW, i have tried the watch on quite a few times (but not my one), and it is beautiful. It sits more proud than i expected, but not uncomfortably so. I have quite a small wrist (7.5), but was absolutely fine.

I always seem to need to get a smaller strap fitting, so 7.5 seems small, no? I am not saying 6.5 is not smaller!

I have no ther 5970s....i dont even have teh 5970P yet, but according to my AD, i will have very soon. I have seen the gold version and have to say it is also stunning. I would elect platinum for choice though.

All 5970s are beautiful , very hard to find another watch that can beat it in term of look and proportion.
It can be worn in all occasions and truly , stunningly handsome.
My personal preference is 5970G due to its silvery steel dial.

Handled a 5970P just yesterday. First impression that it is arguable one of the most handsome PP. However, strapping the 5970P next to 5970J accentuates the former dial illegibility especially under low lighting. Black dial makes for an interesting contrast, but the hands are certainly very hard to read for the long-sighted WIS.

Also an interesting data. A very senior PP personnel confirmed that supply for 5970J is even more scarce than 5970P. Accordingly, the allocation for P was decided during the production years of G, and in anticipation of fashion trends, reasonable numbers of the Lemania base were alloted for P. In contrast, 5970J was launched during the tumultuous financial period, hence offered in very limited numbers, and accordingly the most scarce.

Notwithstanding, 5970 is nice in any variation. Owning one is a joy, but for longevity (defined ease of reading as we age), and the antiquity / heritage of a PP perp chrono, 5970J edges 5970P as the more desirable variant. BUt I'm sure many purists will disagree ...

It  has only few 5970p for sale so it is very hard to see wrist shot. 5970p is the last watch with geneva seal and lemania movement. You can emagine how special it is. Other material like J G R surely stunning but for the feeling as owner you will never known until you've got P.

I disagree with all the " can't read the dial" stuff for me Plt and black dial is perfect.....

It is super legible , but a IF
You need the light to be in an incident angle and create a highlight to the silver hour and minute hands to be able to see it clearly.
I have no problem with that but to some it can be annoying.
Would you expect to see a 5970P photo where the light didn't hit the right spot ;-)
Best thing is to check out the watch in metal or see if you can find someone who owns a 3970 Black Dial version to try.

Until you unseal your 5970P?

I recently got a 5970P.. waiting for my 38th b-day as well!!

I love the 5970P, looks stunning!.

But comparing the difference of degree of excitement between P and G (2nd derivative we are talking about here...) , the 5070 P/G has a much higher "gamma" than 5970P/G. Maybe once the bag is cut, I will say it differently....
