Patek Philippe

just saw one of the passenger with a patek 5102pr, fantastic watch to see in the wild. wow, the owner was in jeans and T-shirt, my kind of boy

but there are some fakes of this watch. I wouldn´t have been sure if I saw someone like this...

... but it's hard to imagine the owner of a 6-figure wrist watch 1) flying in a commercial airport and 2) wearing jeans & a t-shirt. 

Then again, if it's for real, different strokes for different folks!

More people than you think, including myself, travel in levi's & shirts thru commercial airports wearing highly complicated Patek Philippe watches of this nature. The reality is few if anyone knows what they are,their scarcity or value. They are made to be worn and appreciated not "safe queens" preserved for the next generation which may or may not appreciate or even use them as many believe the I-phone serves the same function and with more features.

We were in first class, the person had a nice Vuitton bag and a luggage tag from a pretty exclusive fishing resort in north of Vancouver that I've been to a few times. All in all he could still have a fake but didn't look like it.

WHY ??

A few years ago private jets cost  $1000-3,000.00 an hour to operate....now this is $4000-8000.00 so what was a $3000 trip is now $12,000-15,000 plus the "dead-head" time home if you are staying a while......and that is one way:so commercial travel really starts to look better......now add to that the purchase of that 6-figure timepiece on your Amex card ..........suddenly you have a "gillion" points that you can use to purchase airline tickets with ....so now you are traveling coach, business, or even first class for free vs the $3,000-8000 per hr private cost.......... It does not take  long to see that he could soon aquire another timepiece. So what you are seeing is just good business ........plus an airport and airplane are probably two of the safer places in the world to wear a piece of that nature

If I don't mind flying with a commercial flight, why shouldn't I?
On a reverse, I could be driving a Bentley with a cheap Timex/Casio on my wrist if I didn't care about watch...

I wore my celestial the other day with jeans and and a tee shirt while flying in coach. My flight was only about an hour and a half and I did not see any reason to spend twice the ticket price to fly up front and I sure don't have my own jet

really know how to appreciate his watch, while hide under the Tux just wear a Calatrava will do

seeing such a nice piece being worn so casually. Awesome combo IMHO. The ONLY way to wear watches of this caliber IMHO. I always thought it'd be nice to wear a tux with an Aquanaut. Conversely, with jeans and tee, the higher the complication, the better!

I have his watch on my wrist...

Flying first is a given for guy like that... I don't think personal taste on wardrobe is an issue here, it will be quite natural for him to dress causally as its more comfortable on flight... so why not? But why he'd choose to wear such a nice piece during travel, maybe its a gift he bought there? Or maybe this is something he needed to use like observing the astronomy of the sky... Or he is a grey marketer who would like to avoid VAT when he disembarked in his final destination....

I have seen people wearing 5004P, 5970R traveling in Asia, wearing just shirts and dress pants (but they are much older guys like mid 50s to 60s)...

Personally, since I am in my late 30s, I would wear my 5970G with italian tailored shirt, designer jean and a flip-flop...

could also depend on his final destination. he may have a Cessna CJ2 for shorter-trips but his travels on the day you saw him, took him transatlantic/pacific and his CJ2 doesn't have that range. so a lot cheaper to fly commercial first class than charter a GIV/V.

In Asia, this is hard to tell, even in close range.

I had a recent encounter with a 'rich' friend of mine and we flew back together and I spotted him wearing a Nauty and at the time, I didn't know Nauty enough to tell that a real thing doesn't come with a white dial. So i was 'impressed' as I didn't know he was a WIS. Later I found out that it was a replica and that became a killjoy for me.

So if you spotted someone might be wearing a real thing, treat it as such unless it's plain obvious it's not, I'd prefer to have that good feeling 'seeing' a real thing in the wild than to speculate and found out one which might not be.
