Patek Philippe

I have the unique opportunity to pick up a brand new 5980/1A from my local AD...would you trade in a Rolex Daytona and a vintage Rolex Explorer II for this "sought after" Patek?

well its not the same any more you can get these watches if you look around with a few AD's

this at the end of the day is all controlled due to marketing and not due to the fact that they are rare in case of raw material.

I would say you can even get 5002 or 5004 with a few calls.

I would be better to buy a watch that will not be in production that this.

I firstly would never sell any watch to buy another and never have done it before.

Again it's your call at the end of the day but I would be against it

go for it my friend, i did a similar thing with my rolexes, i sold all my collection which included 2 x SS Daytonas...to buy a 5980/1A and a 5712/1A. i have never looked back since. Personally i did not buy them for financial gain or rarity etc... i bought them purely to step up from Rolex of which i was an avid fan for 11 years and start a new era of collecting Patek Philippe watches instead...albeit a bloody expensive decision!!lol!

... he is usually right. Are u tired of ur Rolex? doesn't still bring u pleasure? I would trade 2 or even 3 watches that i jst like, for THE one that i love
Btw, the 5980, is like the daytona's of the Patek... or something like that

If you read PP magazine volume 10 they wrote : "This watch is important in the history of PP, not only because it is the first SS Chrono since ref. 1467 in the 40's and will break collectors hearts or make their dreams come true!"
Of course it will be discontinued and I can hardly imagine how aftersought it will be in the future!
Buy only if you love it, it's a lot of money!

Certainly a good idea to trade a Daytona plus Explorer II for a 5980.  Now if you were talking about certain vintage Daytonas, that would be different.  5980 is a great chrono.

I traded-in a Breitling + JL Reverso, both of which I rarely ever wore, for a 3710.  It was by far one of the smartest transactions I have done + I'm enjoying the 3710 10x more than I ever enjoyed the Breitling or JL.  Out with the old, in with the new!

I just traded 2 SS Daytonas plus cash for a 5980.  I loved Rolexs, but got bored with the Daytonas.  I keep a  non-date Submariner to use as a "rough use" watch.
