If I buy from a legit grey market dealer instead of an AD will I be able to send my watch to Patek or a Patek authorized service center to be repaired after the warranty expires. I understand they will not honor the warranty, but will they refuse to work on the watch if i pay for the service. Also, once out of warranty do you need to send the watch to Patek to ensure that Patek parts are being use for replacment or can it be serviced buy any certified watch repair person or authorized dealer? Thanks.

You can always bring it to Patek for servicing. Besides they don't know where you bought it (grey market or AD)

Grey market will be without warranty but they will fix it, only you'll pay for it.

If it needs to be serviced I would send it to Patek and not to somebody else (what if the watch needs some replacement parts, would you like to get non PP parts ??)

I didn't know if they check the cert. of origin when ever they do service.  I guess it makes sense then to buy grey market because of the significant discount.  What is the chance that a Patek will be defective in the first 2 years.  On the odd chance  you gambled wrong and it is defective it probably would only cost a few thousand to repair.  The money saved buying grey market can pay for any servicing in the later years.  This is my opinion.  What do you think?       I am just down on AD because the other day I walked in to an AD and asked about buying a 5146 and they said they could not even take my order because they have loyal customers whose orders are ahead of mine so I should order a different watch that I don't want to get in their good graces.   

The official Patek warranty period covers grey market watches too. By definition a grey market watch is a pre-owned watch and the Patek warranty is transferable from the first owner to subsequent owners.

It doesn't matter if from AD, GD, ABCD 

The warranty follows the watch IF it was properly completed and stamped/signed by the AD at the time of the original sale.  If you buy from a gray market dealer and he provides with with a Certificate of Origin that was properly completed by the original AD, then you can expect full warranty service.

but the majority of watches I have seen for sale by gray dealers come ether from customers (or even some ADs themselves)
and have properly filled out paper-work. As such, they are fully covered by 2 year warranty as warranty goes with the watch - not the owner.
