Patek Philippe

It is actually with some dgree of regret that I can confirm that both pieces will be made for only one year. I have just returned from a visit to Patek where this was confirmed to me. I say with regret because a lot of collectors will be dissapointed. C'est la vie.

Last time I was to PP, I asked the same question to 3 different PP people, and I got 3 different answers! LOL but true!
So I hope you're wrong, because in the cobntrary case, my chances to get a 5070 PP are near to 0...

Unfortunately the information can from really the one the highest source after the Msr.P & T. Stern (who were on their way back from China).

I am really feeling low at this moment, whilst I can see the production constraints are true after visiting the manufactory and seeing with my own eyes that they can not physically make more watches, the 5070P was always my dream watch ever since the 5070j was launched. Even though the 5971 and 5004 are still listed, you can not place an order for even those. Uk MD for PP told me they stop taking orders for the 5004 in 2002.

If we can't get this PP 5070P, I may have another solution to get another appealing watch...
Even if I'm a bit sad to hear that, there are so many exciting watches, to be bought much easier, and at less cost.
We'll sepak about thatwhen we mmet in London, in a few days, now!

I'm sad to read your news, not that I had any hope to get myself a wanted 5070P even if it was to become widely available, but that's really a beauty!

I hope to visit Patek Philippe someday too, I'm sure you saw another beauty you could put your hands on?

it is a great strategy on Patek's part--to sell the yellow (least desirable, by today's tastes) 5970 for the shortest time... thereby elevating yellow to new heights! Brilliant!

It does make perfect sense to only make the 5070P for one year.

But in other (related) news, a dealer friend of mine said the market is softening quite a bit... and Swatch has released an article predicting a slowdown in watches overall...

How this will affect Patek... no one knows. My guess is, the BIG Pateks remain un-gettable, and the medium Pateks and little Pateks (which ones are little? Not sure, but they aren't chrono-perpetuals) will probably get very get-able.

I agree... I know of a few collectors who have passed up current deliveries with AD.. I think this is multifactorial.. price increases twice in the US, weakening economy and outlook, inflation with food, energy, overall cost of living.  Anybody else have the same experience?

I have also passed on a watch or two I would have bought last year due to the back to back price increases.  I am reluctantly buying a 5712 in SS today.  I already have the Rose gold 5712,  my favorite watch. I want the 5712/ 1A but I have a lot of watches, and I am tempted to pass on it for now and buy one in 6 months or so.  Supply is much more in line with demand on these watches now.  Prices seem to have dropped on the grey market.  I can buy a 5712  at list price because my  AD knows he will see me wearing it around a year from now. I am sure that I will have other opportunities to buy one.  Once AD's are sure you are not buying the watch to put on ebay, I find I am offered quite a few "hot" watches.   In a normal world, expensive watches like PP would be reasonably available, with a wait of a few months at the most.

I think watch availability will become greater and we may even see healthy discounts from list on 5140, 5040, Nautilus type stuff in the months ahead..  Calatravas will definitely get cheaper. Grand comps might even get discounted more than they have been,  or may miraculously get offered to folks who would have never thought the AD would come calling with such a piece.

I love how certain industries say "We're immune from all that economy stuff"...  then all of a sudden, they aren't. The pendulum "always" swings both ways..  and in recent years it has absolutely overswung.
