Incredibly, I just got the call for BOTH the 5980 AND 5960!!!! Two different dealers.

I gotta choose one, guys.

Help--which one????

Serious serious...  I just sent my 5970 in for a service and opened the safe..  While in there I tried on all the other stuff in there..  The 5960 had real neat and unique presence..  Thicker case..  Some real gravity.  I closed the safe removing the 5970 which is now on its way to the land of chocolate and coockoo clocks, and the 5960 which is going to be spending some time on my wrist.  Buy this piece..  You won't regret it.  The 5980 is neat and all but I bet you'll get more opportunities to pick that up in future. Certainly more opportunities than you will on the 5960 .. JMO

Note: If you said your wife/girlfriend has a closet full of angora sweaters, I'd say take the Nautilus.. Those 5960 pushers get tangled in all sorts of delicate apparel.

I love the 5980 and I am on waiting list for one. I have a 5960 which I have been wearing since the day I got.

BTW: I agree with the NOTE of "nothing but time"

I have both watches and would certainly also take the 5960 if could have but one.

MY solution is to get both...You choose one for you, and you just place one Purist Friend for the other to your AD, ...

Between the 2 PP available just for you, I'd say, as the others before me, just get the 5960!!!!

If I can "choose" only one, I will go for the 5960. But if I can "afford" only one, I will open an overdraft account and get both!

Looks like 5960 is the one the forum would buy first. I understand--it is platinum and maybe harder to find than 5980--and perhaps more 'Patek' in the sense that it is a dress watch and has a beautiful Calatrava style case...

I got some thinking to do!

This is the first time that I am participating in this Forum, and found that I ran into the exact same problem as you did two months ago.  My AD just called, and both my wait-listed 5960, and 5980 are ready for pickup at MSRP!  I already owned a 5036/WG, 5712/WG and 5066 (for my wife).  I am confortable to add one more watch to my collection now, but probably not both.  Any other advise from anyone?  5036 is already an Annual Calendar, and 5712 is already another Nautilus...does it make sense to buy either of the 5980 or 5960?  I love them both but not sure if they are my best choice from a collection standpoint...assuming that I can't afford to buy every PP watch that I like...

I'd say go on the 5960, as you already own the 5712, except if you're completely nuts about Nautilus!
