I am in a huge quandary about whether to get a Nautilus 5711 or Aquanaut 5167. I do not see either of these two watches as "sports" watches (except perhaps for extremely rich people) but rather very smart casual watches bordering on dress watches. I am in my early 30's and whilst I do love watches like the Richard Lange and the Vacheron Patrimony Automatic, I think they are too "old" for me and I simply do not lead a life that justifies these super elegant (and quite fragile) watches yet. What I need is a very smart, thin "dress watch" that is also versatile enough to use in most situations and cannot decide whether the Nautilus of Aquanaut best fit that requirement.
I do not like leather straps in general (apart from the first 3 months of their life) due to how tatty and squalid they become over time. I also for some reason don't like wearing watches that have a bracelet with a suit or to very smart functions (may just be a phase however, but have all sorts of images of travelling sales men and car dealers flashing some shiny chuck of metal at you as some validation of their integrity or status or whatever). Therefore is the Aquanaut not a perfect "dress watch" for someone in my position - Its thin, it smart, its versatile and the rubber strap is elegant enough to make the watch quite dressy I think ??. Or do you feel a bracelet watch is fine on a "dress watch" and the Nautilus is more of a dress watch and the Aquanaut is too casual??
Thank you
Mark K
It looks good for every occasion and always feels comfortable! I am very happy with my 5167.

well im in my late 20s and i picked the 5980...i just got it i think just over a month ago and i love it and have worn it ALOT
both are nice watches but you can decide and the 5711 and 5712 and esp 5980 are VERY hard to get so if you can wait or your AD can get it for you i think as soon as you see it you would get it
good luck

How about the Aquanaut with a black croc ..
I now own a 5711 large size Nautilus. When I got the 5711 I sold my 3800 mid size Nautilus.
I considered the 3800 a dress and sport watch.
The 5711, for me, is more of a sport watch than a dress watch. WIth the larger size, the 5711 makes more of a statement.
Now, for normal business dress, the 5711 would be fine. But for more formal dress I think it is a bit too much.
I am almost sorry that I sold the 3800.
Neither of these could ever pass as dress watches. Few of the general public will recognize these watches or ever imagine thier price. Those that do know them as Pateks will more than likely be "unimpressed" and perhaps a little displeased should you wear them as a dress pieces.
and seeing it on the leather strap makes it dressy enough to be, well, suitable as a "dress" watch in my opinion. The Nautilus is even more dressy and works also, I feel. I don't think dress watches any longer need to be the typical thin, gold watches with white dials only to qualitfy for the title. And should I get an Aquanaut I would wear it in both casual and more formal (suits) scenes, possibly changing to a leather strap.
