So now that it appears 5970 production has stopped, does anyone have a clue about the actual production numbers, number of pieces produced? Anonymous insider tips and second hand hearsay would be most welcome here
I understand the Patek 5970 (2004-2008) production volume is still lower than the much longer multi-decade production run of the strikingly similar (and beautiful) 2499, but I'm curious if anyone can add color as to exactly how many pieces may exist.
Personally, I was never much for the push buttons on later series 2499, 3970 or the new 5960.. those buttons usually snag on the sweaters and garments of the female companion I am disrobing
, so that said, the 2499 (1st series) is really the only thing that holds a candle to the 5970 for wearability imo.

Between 1950 and 1985 they made 349 PP 2499
I don't know how mane 5970 they made but it is for sure more than 349.
A guess, 1200 pce ?? -- 300 per year ? (they made more or less 500 pce 5070's per year)
The 5970 was announced at Basel 2004, but from what I can tell (using forums such as these), 5970s were not available for purchase until late 2004. (If anyone can contradict this please do so!). PP's price lists released in early January 2008 deleted reference to the 5970 (although I read that the price list for Taiwan still includes the 5970??). IF the above information is correct, that would mean the lifespan for the 5970 was just over 3 years, not 4.
I would also say that 5970 sales were robust (i.e., these watches sold immediately), while the sales for the 3970 were lackluster for a number of years before the rumors of discontinuation began. Still the 3970 was available for 18 years and at a much lower price point than the 3970. All told, I would guess far more 3970s were made than 5970s. I have to think that there were far more 5970's made compared to the 2499's though.
If we all took the effort to ask our AD's how many 5970's (and 5070's while we are at it) they sold, I would think we could make a somewhat educated guess. Feel free to PM with what you find out (and your AD's location) and I will compile the information and post it.
