My 6196P has arrived, and after living with it for a few days, Iβve come to realize that the 1.33mm increase in thickness over its predecessor, the 5196, is quite a significant design change. I had noticed this when reading the press release back in April, but didnβt think much of it at the time. Since the 6119, which uses the same caliber and has a display back, retains almost the same thickness as the 5196, itβs clear that the added height was a deliberate aesthetic decision.
Comparing the models in profile, the extra thickness seems to come mainly from a taller bezel and flange, along with a more prominent crystal. Together, these give the dial an enhanced sense of depth beneath the domed sapphire.
Whatever the intention, I feel this tweak, combined with the blackened indices and hands, makes the 6196P bolder and less formal in both look and feel, and ultimately, a more versatile watch overall.
